Ping Timeout

Tue Apr 05, 2011 1:34 pm

Hello,

I have got three mikrotik routers and one HP Switch, One of the mikrotik is connected to HP switch via fibre link. The devices are connected in the following order :

RB1100 --------> HP Switch ---------> RB450 ------> RB1100 --------> Customer Network
0.74/30 0.73/30 0.69/30
0.70/30

I have got RIP v2 enabled on the interfaces connected of the three mikrotiks. Everything works fine in the situation. I want to remove RB450 from my network and for that I have made the following change :

RB1100 --------> HP Switch ---------> RB1100 --------> Customer Network
0.74/30 0.73/30

I have still got RIP enabled. In the above case i am getting ping replies but after every few ping replies, I am getting a timeout. What might be causing the timeout??? Has it got to do something with RIP , because I have restarted both routers as well and still same issue. In order to test the link I have plugged a laptop directly into HP switch and gave my PC an IP of 0.102/30 and mikrotik has also got an IP of 0.101/30 and in this case if i ping from my PC ping seems to be fine. What could it be causing problem with the pings???? When i make the configuration same as before (shown below) ping results seems to be fine. Could anyone please explain???

RB1100 --------> HP Switch ---------> RB450 ------> RB1100 --------> Customer Network
0.74/30 0.73/30 0.69/30
0.70/30

Thanks
