Experimenting with AirMax Sectors

Thu Apr 14, 2011 7:00 am

Friends,
I am trying some exp. with Airmax Sectors. The Sectors have a "V" vertical pole and "H" horizontal pole. I got them actualy to connect with R52Hn mini PCI but since I do not have MIMO clients I somehow could not get it working. I used an R52H instead with the "H" pole and all my clients came up and working good.
My question is: can I use another(second) mini PCI R52H on the same RB 433AH routerboard to connect to the "V" pole? At some place where I get bad signal or interference I can use the "v" aligned clients and get them to work gr8. Has someone tried it before?
Also I would like to know: Should I keep the same SSID for the "H" and "V" poles?(I think it should be different) My "H" pole is running on frequency 2452 Hz. What should I use for the "v" pole"? (Should I check the NOISE Floor before choosing the Freq.)
Your response/suggestion is eagerly awaited.

I suppose you can have 2 different radio on the V & H, but then have the freq. as far as possible apart.
Definately different SSIDs. It is like 2 seperate antennas, very very close together.
What CPEs do you use?

it would work, but not ideal. im sure the cross polarization values on those sectors arent made for running two radios independently.

They r actually working good. I do not know how they'll respond when number of cpe increases. It worked good for a few who were having bad ccq n latency issues. I am having tplink cpe n rb 411.

Those sectors are good, but check their radiation pattern, very fine adjustment needed to make them work optimal. Very narrow vertical spread and if it's not 100% upright, most of the 'pancake' radiation pattern hits the ground or the sky. But the have a little level built in, so easy to check. And if it's on a very high site, closeby CPEs get bad signal, or far CPEs, depends on tilt.

Hi, we have such config working. 2 RB411 in separate Metal enclosure and compex wlm5423a cards. It is vorging Not the Best but o.k.
Tx-power should Be Set to minimum.
They are Running in nstreme mode. On each pol 8 -10 clients connected, aggregated throughput on each pol is arround 16-20MBit/s.

i had them installed with compex cards but they were wrking just OK. With r52h i a using them at max tx power/ default 25 dbm and its working good. using same enclosure with RB 433ah as main board and 2 r52h cards. actually i had some clients who were facing latency issues and slow bandwidth and poor ccq's less than 30% so i changed the antenna panels to vertical and had the "V" pol of the Airmax working. now the ccq of the same clients is 98-100. I do have my sectors mounted at gr8 height.

I have been using these since they came out. I use two Dbii 5.8 cards on a RB433AH one going to "V" and one going to "H" of course you can use any 5.8 Radio card you want. But I found the DBii to be the best for this application, I tried them all. On two of my Sectors I used a DBii F50 and 1 R52Hn. This allowed me to swap our old 5.8 sector on "v" and also add an N capable card to the "H" side. We are now using the SXT antennas so we have the option of A with Vertical Pol, or N with Horizontal. So far I see no problem with adding two radio cards to the same Sector.

do you think u have really been able to connect even one TPLINK 501 cpe when running the airmax sector with R52Hn? and what r the signal levels?? and at what distance?? becoz when i tried doing so i could not even connect one. i was told to use tplink 701.

I have ordered some 711-2Hn which is going to take another 1 week to arrive. I hope that works out as successful CPEs for r52hn and Airmax sectors.

im airmax sectors ,actually im having two airmax sector, one is working fine.
but another one wont give RX on wlan when i check CH0 tx & CH0 rx is checked.
But Ch1 has no problem,
When CH0 is checked means mt router board ip also gives me request time out while pinging.
able to open routerboard via mac server only.

But when i connect with another sector i dont have any problem.

please let me help find the reason issue.
Is it is really by airmax sector..?

i don't think u get ping and winbox issues due to your sector antenna must be due to some card failure

I used 2.4 airmax mimo antenna with R52hn card with 433 ah, from last month im getting latency issues, when i watched over winbox i found packet in TX frames only. by comparing Tx/ rx frames with Tx/Rx Hw. Frames.
Now i changed with 711 UA 2hnd & Lmr 200 cable , then also im getting same problem
here is my registration table, signal strength is good , but lot of packet loss in Tx Frames only.

my client are having mixed cpes, so i used b/g/n mode.
here is my config.
2.jpg
the freq usage of my area ,having no problems with frequency
Help me to get out of this situation...
Thanks in advance

Speaking of AirMax MIMO sectors, can anyone share your insights about them? How do they compare with another brands? I have particulary 5GHz version in mind.

And why some serious antenna manufacturers like MTI or Mars doesn't really offer any similar products? I mean MIMO, compared by gain and angle.

Currently I plan to upgrade some of my sectors to dualpol MIMO, since almost everywhere we have deployed SXTs and SEXTANTs as CPEs, introducing one more chain would improve service quality and might offer some higher throughputs for the future. Therefore I'm looking for some more serious stuff to pair with RB711GA-5HnD on AP sites.

It's too bad I do not see much of what to choose from, especially when these airmax sectors are the only ones local distributors offer and any other positions have to be shipped from abroad. Don't want to buy a cat in the bag. At least without consulting the forum in the first place :)
