Hotspot or basic queue

Im currently using hotspot for our WISP so that if someone doesnt pay there bill i can temp shut them off and they get the hotspot page saying they need to pay.

Is using hotspot for that and bandwidth control using more CPU usage then just queue?

Would I get better throughput using just queue instead of using the hotspot?

Generally speaking yes, the Hotspot adds more overhead since it redirects all HTTP traffic to the browser. You can use proxies to show payment reminders to just individual users with less overhead. While the article discusses this for PPPoE the method can be adjusted to any other connection types.

Will there be a big difference in latencey? between using hotspot and queue? I have a hotspot setup now and a few users that try to game online or XBox. Internet connection is fine we are way under our bandwidth usage but ping seems to be to high for the gaming. Will using basic queue bring it down?

It's unlikely that ICMP latency is going to improve. The Hotspot's only effect on ICMP is its use of simple queues, so going to simple queues without a Hotspot isn't going to change much.

hello all,

during discussion of this thread I need to know How I can enable hotspot and queue tree at same time??
I am able to do hotspot alone and queue tree alone but both of them I can not.

thanx
