Winbox - CPU load problems

Hi,
I`ve recently upgraded from 2.8.27 to 2.9.6, and almost everything went fine.
The only unreasonable problem is that when I connect with Winbox, the CPU load on router goes up to 100%, and winbox crashes.
The router is Intel P4 2.8Ghz 1Gig RAM
Connecting through ssh or webbox makes no CPU overload.

Any suggestions?
Please help.

I see the same when connecting to a RB532 board.. Although, it only peaks for about a second and then drops when its done establishing the connection. I'm running 2.9.6 as well..

Does your winbox crashes also, or it continues to work?

I have the same problem, the mikrotik support told me that in the next version (2.9.7) they will solve several problems related with the use of the cpu.... we have to wait

Very interesting situation: Now it is 5:20AM and I have only 38 PPPoE users online at the moment. With this number of users, CPU load is arround 10%, and for the last 20 minutes Winbox is working OK! It is true that it responds a bit slower than in 2.8.27, but at least it WORKS without crashing!
I hope Mikrotik support reads this post :) It looks like heavy load crashes Winbox in 2.9.6 for some reason.......

My upgrade license expires Dec/01/2005
I hope they will finish 2.9.7 soon :)

With 2.9.7 winbox lasts a little longer. Sometimes it runs for several minutes, bet crashes anyway :(
Anybody have ANY idea on this issue??

remove winbox.exe and remove all the related files along with it. Download winbox.exe from the router's webpage (to get the latest version) and then try reconnecting..

When winbox crashes its usually due to corrupt plugin files that it downloads from the router. Just uninstall/reinstall :)

Mikrotik directory: %userprofile%\Application Data\Mikrotik

Remove the entire Mikrotik directory.

Thank you for this tip, but unfortunately, this will not be the solution :(
I already done that, and the most interesting thing is, that when I connect via winbox on two different computers to the same router, both winboxes crashes at the same time!
The problem is obviously in the router :(

I don't think that the router is going to cause winbox to crash.. Winbox is run locally on your client PC and just talks to the router over TCP port 8291... I don't see how the router could crash winbox...

Are you connecting to the router over multiple WAN links? or are you connecting on the LAN side of the router?

Maybe the plugins that it downloads from the router are corrupted. Just a wild guess. If you want to run a CRC against them I will verify against ours.

I use this one which is an excellent context menu add-on:

http://www.sirocco.force9.co.uk/#CrcShExt

Go to properties in explorer for each file and you'll see a file CRC tab - grab the value for each and paste em im and I'll validate against my copy. I am running 2.9.7.

Interesting, but in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Mikrotik\Winbox\2.9.7 i have a .crc file for each DLL, but the content of those .crc`s is not equal to those I got with the addon??

advtool.dll

Thanks a million!

From the ones that I had they all matched, EXCEPT sync.dll / sync.crc.

Very interesting that MT uses CRC files as well, glad to see this... I never even knew those were there.

Anyhow, SYNC.DLL does not match the CRC value I have for mine. Maybe this is a problem - I am not sure what sync.dll is used for.

You might also want to remove any packages you are not using, ie isdn ? Are you using arlan? hotspot? lcd? telephony ?

If you remove those downloaded files does it redownload the same CRC next time? Maybe its time to remove most packages from router and reupload them.

BTW - sync.crc is 1576911284 on my machine.

Whatever the problem was, it is FIXED in 2.9.8 !!!!!!
I have just upgraded to the latest release, and winbox haven`t crash for about 30 minutes. Before the upgrade, winbox crashed after max 2 minutes!
I am so happy :)
Thank you for this bugfix!!!
