DHCP Relay - DHCP Server Setup

Mon Oct 31, 2005 10:14 pm

In the following, when I say "DHCP server" I am referring to a Linux DHCP server, not the Mikrotik.

I want to try DHCP relay. The MT manual says how to set up the MT for DHCP relay, but I'm confused how the DHCP server is configured.

For testing, my DHCP server is on a 192.168.4.0 subnet at 192.168.4.2. The Mikrotik (ether1) is also on that subnet at 192.168.4.202. I set DHCP relay on the MT to point to the server 192.168.4.2.

Im confused about how the DHCP server configuration should be set. I want the server to respond with 10.1.1.0 addresses. How can I configure the DHCP server which has a 192.168.4.2 address to serve addresses of 10.1.1.0 via relay? I hope that makes sense.

According to the MT, the relay requests get sent but no response from server. Firewall is open, connections go in, but the server will not respond. This is a Linux DHCP server.

Any help is appreciated!

Configure a 10.1.1.0 scope on the Linux DHCP server. That's it.
