PPPoE slower than DHCP

Hi everyone, We are mostly using PPPoE to give users public IP addresses and this works very well. We are finding that speed throughput with PPPoE is much slower than DHCP (6 - 7 Mbps as opposed to more than 20 Mbps). We are using TPLink wireless routers for the client PPPoE or DHCP end and Mikrotik for the AP/concentrator end. For these tests we are not using any traffic queuing. Do the "Use Compression" "Use VJ" "Use Encryption" or "Change TCP MSS" values in the PPP profiles affect speed throughput? I'm trying to find a reason why PPPoE is slower than DHCP.
thanks very much,
Derek

Yes. It will not change traffic throughput significantly, but for example when other brandname router does not have enough resources, encrpytion/compression could decrease total throughput.

Hi Sergejs,
Is PPPoE taxing on cheap routers? (e.g. TPLINK) - Is it normal for PPPoE to be much slower than DHCP? It doesn't seem to matter whether I enable or disable the encryption or compression options. Are there any other options to check (e.g. Change TCP MSS ?)
thanks,
Derek

It depends on routers resources and used software, but most likely this is the issue.

It will not decrease throughput for 2-3 times.
