Fully Disable SNMP

Mon Jul 18, 2011 5:46 pm

I've been using the Dude for a long time and always found it to be excellent.
However we have noticed that it is often creating a large ammount of SNMP traffic from itself, both sending and receiving.
I have supposedly disabled SNMP however we are still seeing this large ammount of traffic.

Is there any way to totally disable SNMP as we only want the monitoring features and not the data from SNMP.

We're currently running the Dude V4.0b3

I also have had occasions when troubleshooting high CPU utilisation etc, that I have had to disable The Dude from doing SNMP gets on a particular device, or two. I have done this by opening the "settings" dialog for the device, on the "General" tab go to the SNMP profile listbox and select "no SNMP". I have done this as a per-device setting, not sure if you can do this globally, try the settings button on The Dude toolbar and change the default SNMP profile there. I guess that any device that is using the "default" SNMP profile will pick up the change?

The Dude is pretty heavy in SNMP queries of each device that is mapped. Anything that is even slightly underpowered will suffer.
