So what's the trick to install 5.6 usermanager on a x86 box.
The 5.6 RouterOS package comes without it. Can't seem to uninstall previous package 5.5, and leave 5.5 usermanager to be taken up with 5.6 install.
I did not get the 5.6 userman package with the links sent me
Thanks

User Manager package is version depended package.
System package 5.6 is compulsory to install v5.6 User Manager.

User Manager package is version depended package.
System package 5.6 is compulsory to install v5.6 User Manager.
So, still not clear as to how to get 5.6 (x86) usermanager now that I have routeros x86 5.6 npk.
Is it just not available with the x86?
Today, 8/8/2011,7 days after 5.6 was released WITHOUT usermanager. I have everything installed now that UserManager is included in the download

It's very easy to install userman 5.6 on an x86 system. Please read the wiki. Make sure when updating from 5.5 to 5.6 place all the packages in the root of the Files area (not a subfolder), then reboot the system. If this is a new install on an x86 harddrive use the ISO, burn and boot then configure.

I used Winbox with the combined package to upgrade to ROS 5.6, but there is still no Usermanager package installed. I see that Usermanager is an option. How do you add that option to the already upgraded X86 system?

The combined package does not include the usermanager. You have to download all packages to see the usermanager package. Then drag and drop the usermanager package into the root of the files folder. Afterward just reboot and you can start configuring the usermanager software.

I downloaded the All packages file and opened it. I tried to copy the usermanager.npk file to the File section but it did not see anything happen. Of course I rebooted and still did not see the Usermanager. Pls advise. I know that I am not that dumb.

After package copy and reboot, check /log print
Perhaps you copied wrong architecture package.

Log does not show anything related to the installation of usermanager.

apparently you didn't upload the package, or uploaded it inside a folder, not to the root level

I am sure I tried to copy it to the root. Can this be done from the command line? Path?

Not command line, but you may use Winbox drag-n-drop method,

To install or upload user-manager in the router, you can use this software to upload the file without any problem,
http://winscp.net/eng/index.php. Download and install, then login to the router with the ip address of the router, the username and password, then the rest is history.
See the diagram below

Here you just upload the file to the root folder, that makes it to be installed accordingly.

hello,
If you have configured it like this in the terminal/console, them check if you have it this way.
You can just copy and paste in the terminal, but change the ones in open quotes like "mylogin"
/ tool user-manager customer add login="mylogin" password="password" permissions=owner
/ tool user-manager router add subscriber=mylogin ip-address=127.0.0.1 shared-secret=123456
/ tool user-manager user add name=user password=password subscriber=mylogin
NOTE:
For Version 4.0 using user-manager test package.
/ tool user-manager router add customer=mikrotik ip-address=127.0.0.1 shared-secret=123456
/ tool user-manager user add name=user password=demo customer=mikrotik
In version 4:
/ tool user-manager user add name=demo password=demo customer=MikroTik
Again, check in your firewall, if you blocked the user-manager port mistakenly, again make sure your computer is getting ip from the MT automatically.
Let me know your situation.
