Newbie with dude: e-mail alert?

Hi, I've seen in a video on youtube I can set dude to control ethernet devices: when ping (or other protocol) fails, the device image turns from green to red, then it comes green again when connection is restored.
Is possible set the dude to send e-mails alert when a device comes unreacheble and when it comes reacheble again?
Thanks.

It most certainly is!!
You can set up just about any alerting method you want - only limited by your (or others) ingenuity. There are a number of built-in notification methods (email is one of them). One method allows you to run an external script or application which allows you to do all sorts of things (SMS, paging, play sounds on remote PCs, etc).
I can only encourage you, as a newbie, to put some time and effort into setting up The Dude. It is, IMHO, the best, most versatile monitoring product available (this includes the very expensive, well known ones). I can't claim to have used every product available, but I have tried quite a few (including some of those expensive ones). We have been using The Dude now for 2 or 3 years.
There is a wiki with some good information on things to consider when setting up a new system, a really good discussion/explanation on custom probes in this forum and an active user community on this forum to help you help yourself with any issues you might run into.
Good luck

Hi, I've seen on the web a dude image showing graphs........ (I didn't know about what).
Now I'm thinking: does dude can read custom values and make graph?
Example: I have a device set as TCP server, I connect to the device through a TCP client asking for some data (let's image I ask for voltage sending code "23h"and the server sends me the value "12.000"), now it's dude to ask for value and make graph.
Is it possible?
Thanks

The Dude can make graphs out of data, that's available over SNMP. You need to check if your device supports SNMP, and if yes, if this value is available over SNMP.

Can I set notifications, to be send only when the dude flag has changed to red? I don't want to know how many and which devices do not respond. I want to know if everything's working or not. Because with 300 devices in dude, if the root is rebooted and 30 RB will not respond - I would recive 60 notifications that they stop working and start working. I justwant to no if everything is ok or not.

yes, configure dependencies, and then configure an alert on the first device
