Could you make a support output file from both of them and send to

I did an upgrade from 4.13 to 5.11, and manually installed the user-manager, reboot, then CPU load is 100% and user-manager not working. I see in the profiler, user-manger taking more than 90% cpu usage. So I've disabled it, and now all wireless/hotspot client can't connect.
Any suggestions?

Answer depends on package you had before upgrade,
- v4.x usermanager-test, there should not be any problems with upgrade from v4.x to v5.x;
- v4.x usermanager, in some cases there could be problems, and it is easier to start new configuration, if you want to avoid manual reconfiguration of profiles and users.
Please make new post in User Manager section for questions about User Manager!

Since the user-manager is not installed by default, so I installed it manually using the file "user-manager-4.13-mipsbe.npk" which is extracted from "all_packages-mipsbe-4.13.zip". So, what should I do? Is there any better solution than resetting the ROS to default and reconfigure all again?
When user-manager from 5.11 installed, it's hard to do anything, cpu load is 100% and winbox become very slow respond. Tried to clear the user-manager database also doesn't works, it said timed-out or something.

Did you wait long enough? It takes a while for the database to convert/rebuilt. In the meantime the cpu load will be high. I had trouble upgrading from 5.8 to 5.9. I havn't tried 5.11 yet. Maybe you shuld try 5.8?
Before upgrading - make sure there are no special characters("-+%€öäå" etc) in profile names, router names etc. and the upgrade will be smother

Yes, i thought it so. Have been waiting for more than half an hour but still no different.

I already make sure, there's no non-alphabets char.

Just some ideas:
1. If you see both "flash" and "userman" in profile with high % - the chance is its still trying to convert. Maybe using an other RB or x86 with more memory will
do it better...
2. What about trying 4.17 with userman test-package. Run, rebuild and then update to ROS 5....

I've upgraded RB751 from 5.10 to 5.11 and it was strange then - rebooting immediately after connecting any cable (from empty switch too) to any of switched ports 2-5. Counter "Total Sector Writes" was erased. I saved config and supout file, then tried to reset configuration using jumper - it was all right then, after loading configuration as well.

There was something about not proper shutdown in the log file, but I didn't see any supout file. I have supout before crash - I saved it (using ether1 - only port without problems), then connected cable to other port, router crashed immediately and was not able to boot until cable was removed. I can send the supout if it could help to avoid similar behaviour in the future.

In many others PowerPC Core Router and Core Switches the 5.11 is wonderful.

Update from 4.17 to 5.11 went fine.
User-Manager is still working, old account still here but with a default configuration so I'll have to import some more datas by myself. Not a problem.
Just had a look to the new userman webpage, because I'm using my own application to generate voucher and manage my hotspots.
So you changed the credit part to something called profile, with limitation and profile-limitation to bind them all. Too bad we can't assign to a unique user a specific download limitation without generating a new profile.
Anyway, and because I'm using my own application to generate voucher and manage my hotspots, I need to understand how the new User-Manager is working...
I can't understand how you link Users to Profiles.
tl;dr:
How to bind a user to a profile using console/api in the last UserManager.
Cordialy,
daita.

mikrotik could not achieve maximum bandwidth throughput by accessing Rb450G from LAN if using windows machine (7 pro sp1 64bit) (30KBps to 1Mps range only, mostly below 1MBps).
funny thing, after tested from ubuntu machine (11.10 desktop x86) the thoughput went through 6MBps!
the router eth0 is Gigabit, so is the client (windows and ubuntu). is there known limitation/compatibility for mikrotik and windows bandwidth throughput?

Mikrotik RB450G on 4.17 or 5.11 eth0 >> 192.168.1.1
Mikrotik RB450G on 4.17 or 5.11 eth1 >> 10.125.1.1
Ubuntu 11.10 Server 64Bit >> 192.168.1.2
Client Windows 7 Pro SP1 64Bit >> 192.168.1.3
Client Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop 32Bit >> 192.168.1.4
i NAT the public address to port 80 on private address and download a file from web server on LAN using the NAT public address with Firefox. Firefox on Windows only put 1MBps on average, rarely burst to 3MBps. Firefox on Ubuntu put 6MBps on average, sometimes burst over 7MBps.
in torch, there are two connections, 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.1, and 192.168.1.3/192.168.1.4 to 10.125.1.1 with both produced almost the same throughput in transfer and receive respectively. the data being downloaded was AMD Catalyst driver 11.12 (104MB).
i tried to FTP to the router uploaded and downloaded the routeros upgrade npk and it only puts 150KBps max.
if i bypassed and downloaded directly from 192.168.1.2, both browser downloaded 26-60MBps. only if the client is set with public DNS who translated the domain into its public ip address than the throughput went down badly like it was being limited by mikrotik and i see the mikrotik cpu usage went up to 100%.
to avoid this kind of situation, i added a static DNS on mikrotik to translate the domain into its own private address in LAN. but if someone is using public DNS (OpenDNS, or GoogleDNS) inside the LAN, than their browsing experience is compromised by bandwidth limitation.
i've tried to turn off all mangle, filter, and queue, except NAT, still the problem exists. i haven't had the time to try on other routerboard though. i guess i have another rb450 (the older brother), will test on it and let you know later next week or two.

looks like there is something in common between all your routers. none of our test devices has crashed, we even have some running in our live network.
it's possible you all four use the same feature or function. can you all describe your configured settings in a few words? what did you all configure? do you have queues, tunnels, some specific feature?

- 5 bridges collecting 5 groups of eoip tunnel
- 5 hotspot servers listening on the 5 bridges
- PPTP + OVPN server with 5-6 active connections
- mangle based on addess lists
- quee tree with pcq queue for hotspot users
- radius client for hotspot auth
- OSPF with only 1 neighbour
- dude server (4.0beta3) used as agent for another dude server

Hey Normis,
after tweaking and testing around, it seems on my windows machine, the ipv6 is enabled, while on ubuntu the ipv6 is disabled on purpose.
i can confirm that login to winbox and torch to see the throughput really hurts own machine LAN performance to the the Mikrotik.
by exiting winbox and do the test again on windows, finally i am able to achieve 400KB-600KBps, and 1.14MBps (9Mbps! woohoo!) by using downthemall plugin
just my two cents,
chrone

Hi Normis, i have reboots in 2 IBM Servers with Intel Xeon and Core 2 Duo and 4Gb RAM each...
1) Core Router balancing manually by subnetting and routing 8 WANs in 1 Trunk Ethernet by VLANs generated by a RB1100 like Core switch, with around 120Mb of Internet.
_Simple Mangle rules and QoS in Queue Tree
_Little firewall protection doing forward limits of Netbios traffic, TCP connections, AntiSPAM, etc
2) Similar PC with similar configuration by in the other side, at 120km with the same Switch doing the VLANs and controlling around 3000 users with pppoe.

forget what i said earlier, i know the culprit is the cpu was somehow set to 100mhz after upgrading from 4.17 to 5.10 and then 5.11. that's why it took down throughput when running winbox.
i just tested download a file from a private server through a nat public ip on rb450g, the download speeded up to 10MBps ~ 100Mbps. now that's a huge bump! woohoo!

- queue trees (8 in queues, 8 out queues)
- 2 BGP sessions (same AS number "internet" and "national" traffic)
- 2 VLANs
- 1 IPIP Tunnel (that seldom has traffic)
- DNS forwarding active
- DHCP server
- 2 X Marvell Gigabit (skge driver) - was RTL8169, same behaviour
- Core2Duo E6300 downclocked to 1.4GHz, 1GB RAM
I cannot provide a supout for the crash because it just hangs.

*) dhcp client - renew dhcp lease on ethernet link up event;
What does this mean? The dhcp-client request new IP etc. after ethernet link up event?
Or dhcp-server reset "Expires After" time of client?
Either way, if you have an issue with the Ethernet port (port flap! Either virtual or real...) the dhcp-client is re-requesting or the dhcp-server is resetting timer every time again?
I don't know if I am so happy with that, and I don't know if the router is happy with all that extra work....... can I switch this off?

Hello!
Faced with the device RB450G that after you upgrade from version 4.17 to any version 5.8-5.11 is the performance drop by 2-3 times (at the 4.17 rate was about 200 megabits, but now more than 50 does not rise, due to the 100% CPU usage)
It is also sometimes result in an error of the kernel.
What can follow any responses to advise, if I had to re-create all the rules, after resetting all settings.
-----------------

i guess you are experiencing the same symptom with me. take a look at system resource, check the cpu frequency, i hope it's not 100Mhz.
you could set the frequency back to its normal value via command line if it happens to be set 100Mhz after the upgrade. or through the gui in winbox on the routeros 5.x version. don't forget to upgrade your firmware too.

The same thing, x86 platform - router was rebooted without proper shutdown, at least two times in 24h. It was working perfectly until ver. 5.8. After upgrade to 5.9 - 5.10 - 5.11, rebooting continue constantly... Supout.rif file sent to the support.

nothing was changed in this area, so I can't see why X86 would reboot on v5.11 and not on v5.8
Problem with my x86 - After 4 days of the upgrade to v5.11 my HP Proliant ML110 G6 core server is stopped and frozen as well as with earlier version v5.7. Just press on the reset has helped to start server again..

oh okay, so the cpu frequency has nothing to do with your lower throughput. ever tried to disable all firewall rules and test it out temporarily?

Yes, tried on the number of rules does not.
Load is increased if a NAT is ~ 4900 packets per second.
Or activated via IPTV IGMP Proxy (flow rate of ~ 3,7-7Mbit / sec).

Hi Normis.
1) No BGP
2) PPtP server + 8 PPPoE servers
3) online up to 580 users (pptp and pppoe)
4) Only simple queues - no QueueTree
5) No bridge
6) 59 VLANs
HW - Dell 1950 (2CPU*2CORE=4CORE) + LAN Pci-E Intel 82576 (2 ports)
Upgrade to 5.11 was in 2:00 of night and server worked about 10 hours without reboots, but when load was increase (pptp and pppoe active) server start to reboot every 20-30 minutes. One core CORE was 100%|100%.
This left on disconnected winbox.
#sys resource cpu print interval=1
CPU LOAD IRQ DISK
0 100% 100% 0%
1 3% 3% 0%
2 3% 3% 0%
3 5% 5% 0%
-- [Q quit|D dump|C-z pause]
After downgrade from 5.11 to 5.8 uptime now - 5d 22h (no any reboot)
I think it's problem with ppp and multi-core.
Thanks.
Nikolay.

hi,
i have problem with RB600 and latest fw (5.9, 5.11)
after RB600 update winbox shows all available routerboards (clients) with same IP as RB600 (dhcp server)
ohh not all, clients connected thru lan ports shows with correct ip,
but clients connected thru wifi shows same ip as RB600 server. (and these clients have probs with connection then)
when downgraded RB600 to 5.8 all ok..
do i have some wrong setting which are not sensible in fw 5.8 and eralier ?

X86 on vmware with 5.11 hangs only on our multicore machine (3 cpu). Works for about 8 hours then just hangs. I reset it in vmware, and i am good to go for 8 hours. Downgraded to 5.8 to see if it will help.
On two others with 1 core and 2 core it works fine.

I used hotspot on 750G with ros 5.11 in a workshop for a ISP engineers, I assigned Router IP(v4) address in walled garden and walled garden IP as (allow), but when openning the userman page the '411 page not found error' was appeared, by disabling Hotspot the userman page opened successfully. downgrade to 5.10 fixed this issue.

My RB750 upgraded successfully,It works well till now.
But I found a warnning message in the system logs.
"System rebooted because of kernel failure"
Every time I start or reboot the router,It's always in the first line of the logs.
Is this a prompt bug or a serious proplem?

Check your 'System/Logging' settings.
For critical error like 'System rebooted because of kernel failure' two actions are defined: 'memory' and 'echo'.
By default 'echo' action has 'Save' option turned on, so even old critical errors are displayed after every reboot.

Had 5.11 lock up on an esxi VM after about 2 days. A reset brought it back up, and its been up for just over 6 days. ONLY change made was for all logs to go to disk instead of memory or console, so I could catch what was in the logs before the next lock up.
Config:
2 vCPU's (xeon e5420)
1GB vRAM
80GB vDisk thin provisioned
2 legacy network interfaces (e1000) for WAN and LAN
Fairly basic firewall rules (approx 50)
Blacklist chain added that inspects against an address-list with approximately 400 ip's/address spaces - dynamically updated nightly
Packet mangling (approx 30)
Queue tree with approx 10 branches
3 continuous SSTP connections to 3 remote RB750gl's (have issue with SSTP stop passing traffic, which I'll post in another topic - a net watch script works around this)
No dhcp client or server
Combination of dstnat/srcnat and simple routing of 1 private space and 2 public spaces on LAN
SNMP enabled and monitored using a Mikrotik template through a Cacti server every 5 minutes
Other than the SSTP issue, everything has been stable.

Also downgraded back to 5.9 on a RB-800 as the PPPoE server and client options in the interface disappeared. (firmware 2.24 - did not try with 2.30)
On the other RB-400s and RB-600s 5.11 is fine.

Same reboot problem on two different systems for 5.11:
Quad AMD vs Intel I7 2600
Both have same set of features:
Most important: VRRP, BGP, QoS, VLANS, Queue Management, Firewall, Bridging, Bonding, Multi-CPU on.
I7 is primary, AMD is backup so it is not used as much. I7 was rebooting every 2 minutes, AMD rebooted twice in 24h.
Also, on AMD when upgraded from 5.8 to 5.11 one of the VLANS switched the attached interface to another disabled interface which had nothing to do with the original interface the VLAN was attached to.
Also, as a side note, will there be any support for more than 2GB of RAM in the system and more than 200 networks available in /routing bgp network ? These two features I belive are very important, as we're currently running 12 BGP full table peers and are planning on a lot more for multi-cpu systems.
Thanks,

I've run into an issue tonight where I couldn't log in to my x86 v5.11 router with my configured username and password. I had deleted the "admin" user at initial setup but the router sometime in the last 24 hours decided to remove my username from the users list and reactivate the default admin user. This had the unfortunate side effect of letting someone unknown to me log in to my router early this morning via SSH which was configured to allow logins from anywhere, unlike every other service which is locked down. Fortunately, this person didn't appear to have changed anything. After setting things back (with a new password just in case my password was compromised) the system returned back to only having the default admin user in it within minutes of me changing the config several times. Also, looking at the license of the router shows no license. /sys lic print literally just prints a couple returns and back to a prompt. The loaded license was a level 5.
Motherboard: SuperMicro X9SCL
CPU: Intel Xeon E1220 quad-core no hyperthreading
Memory: 8 GB
onboard NIC 1: Intel 82579LM (not supported yet by ROS)
onboard NIC 2: Intel 82574L
PCI-E NIC 1: Intel 82574L
Boot disk: USB flash drive - 8GB
Just FYI.

This really sounds like someone hacked into the system and installed a backdoor.
After all ROS on x86(and all other plattforms) is Linux based and so exploits might work like on any other Linux based system.

I have 2 Routerboard 1100AH upgrade to v.5.11 and every day crash
I am seeing a similar problem and error messages ("system rebooted because of kernel failure"). I have a new RB450G which came with 5.2 installed. I upgraded to 5.11 and entered my configuration which is relatively simple. It has rebooted twice in the four days that I have had it. I also have a new RB493G with 5.11, albeit with a different configuration which has been fine so far. It appeared to generate a supout file so I'll send that to Mikrotik support.
Other observations:
1) Using winbox, my CPU frequency was showing as 100MHz although it didn't seem like the router was running slowly (I reset to 680MHz).
2) Using winbox, it listed nothing for current firmware, and 2.38 for upgrade firmware (I had already upgraded to 2.38). If I printed the firmware versions using CLI, the current firmware version correctly displayed.
It seems like others have been seeing similar symptoms on various RB versions. Any feedback yet from Mikrotik?

it looks like RouterOS looses HDD (in my case, it's USB Flash, 8G too
) - either now, or a bit later you will find out that Files window is empty, and Terminal window hangs after opening. the only thing that will fix it is reboot; and the only problem - it should be hardware reboot, because on rebooting remotely (via WinBox) router will just hang

Is it so diffilcult for Microtik to write down release notes. For example that it is necesarry to update x86 pc's firmware before using new 5.x versions.
As support informed hdd of usb loses is due to old x86 pc's firmware.

But why should accounts(/etc/passwd?) revert to old values? I would expect that all accounts would be rendered unusable in that case.

Please check "Re: v5.11 released" there are a lot of complains about misteriuos x86 craches and hangs. I had the same problem with three x86 routers - old firmware.
It would be a great help for admins to see release notes, because you can spot problems much faster then us.
Your operating router system is great, but using it becomes tricky because of unknown problems. And nobody comunicates it.

The problem is not in bios, problem is that you don't know what to expect installing new ros version. And it is called "stable".
Problems that affected me last lew months was problems with eoip, ssh, snmp, and x86 router hangings because of bios. The strange thing is that it was working well in previos versions like 4.17. Hangings started from 5.7 version or so.
And maybe there are over issuses that I don't know. Another problem is that after some bug fix you install new version, and it has new bugs, that don't have to do anything that is stated in change log like last eoip problem.
Best regards.

I belive that the reboot problem lies in the support for multi-core/multi-cpu. We have downgraded from 5.11 to 5.8 and we always got "system, info, critical CRIT_: Disabled multi-cpu setting, new value will take effect after the reboot." messages in the console after the downgrade. Even days after the downgrade. Indeed, as someone else suggested in a previous reply, the system could not be rebooted remotely as it hanged.
What we did was we disabled multi-cpu, re-enabled it immediately after, we got "system, info, critical CRIT_: Enabled multi-cpu setting, new value will take effect after the reboot." in the logs, and then rebooted. That mysteriously fixed the problem and the after hangs.

I'm also having x86 latching up problems but on 5.7 (the device still works, but no interface is accessible until reboot). Actually I've got two systems, one running 5.7 and the other running 5.8 that will not update to 5.11 - perhaps I am doing something wrong or missed reading something somewhere.

Hi,
After upgrading our 2 RB800 routerboards to v5.11,they started to reboot occasionally with error message System rebooted because of kernel failure,or they just hanged,so we needed to reboot them manually from power switch.
After downgrading the ROS to v5.9,the problem is solved 1d 14h. uptime with no errors.
*We never had other problems with these 2 RBs,untill now,the issue is probablly connected with the ROS.

so i'm not alone on this
anyway, before i upgraded to v5.11 on the main router, i had it tested on an unused RB750. suprisingly it doesn't crash at all, i keep it running for 24 hours. it has no any firewall rules added, it is on a clean default setting.

Quick update that we've had our x86 5.11 VM running flawlessly except for an SSTP problem for almost 2 weeks now.
The ONLY change made was to have ALL logs go to disk instead if memory. Could memory-based logging or overall memory allocation be the source of the problem?

that's right. i forgot to mention,we are also running v5.11 on RB433AH with two R52Hn cards - no problems at all.
This problem is probablly common on powerpc models.

I have problem with 5.11 on x86 router with one CPU. router hung up 4 time. (CPU worked on 100% - VM statistic)
solution to the problems was:
disable "multi CPU"
I would like to mention the second router with 5.11 and two CPU works perfectly with enable "multi CPU"
reg.

I'm experiencing some issue with ssh/ssl traffic via SNAT/MASQ on my x86 5.11.
Cannot connect via ssh and all ssl pages opened with huge delay ...
Traffic which has no nat goes as it is expected.
Have anyone the same issue?
I'm disabling IpV6 package. Is that safety or that's not recommended?
Cheers.

mangust,
Mikrotik is having serious problems in the routing table.
If you use only to control the MikroTik PPPoE connections have no problems.
If you use the MikroTik with DNAT / SNAT - Firewall - ARP will have various problems of freezing or rebooting the system.
RB1000 use to control the PPPoE clients without problems.
I use Intel x86 PC to control the PPPoE clients without problems.
I use to control RB1200 routed customers have a lot of freezing and rebooting problems.
The team is aware of these problems with MikroTik routing but failed to solve.
Maybe the new kernel with version 6 ?

I use to control RB1200 routed customers have a lot of freezing and rebooting problems.
this may be unrelated to routing at all. RB1200 used to have some problems that were fixed in RouterBOOT and RouterOS upgrades. So, please upgrade RouterOS to v5.11 and then issue command :"/system routerboard upgrade" and reboot. After this, your problems will be gone.

this may be unrelated to routing at all.
Well, Is it safety to use 5.8 instead of 5.11 or it should not be any problem in NAT/Routing (BGP) in 5.11?

there are no known routing issues like that in v5.11
RB1200 issues are only fixed in v5.11 (+ latest bootloader) so you must upgrade anyway.

I can personally confirm that the latest RB1200 firmware included with 5.11 (2.37) resolved the rebooting issue.

Thank you,
I'd rather wait for a solution for all platforms
x86 routed still presents problems of freezing and rebooting
My equipment - RB1000 - RB1200 - RB600 - RB333 - RB433AH and several MikroTik x86 we are using version 5.7
When everything is right on all platforms exchanged for the most current version
Thanks again.

there is zero benefit in waiting for all platforms to be the same version. upgrade the ones where problems are fixed, or better yet - simply upgrade them all.

So why release it in the first place?

When using RB751U-2HnD with software 5.11 are frequent hangs and reboot the device for downloading torrents at speeds above 40 Mbps.
I use two uplink pppoe (5 Mbps) and pptp (100 Mbps), masquerading, load balancing using PCC.
At version 5.8, this configuration is stable.

When we last had our x86 box crash, it was responding to pings but not forwarding any traffic. Console was completely black. Pressing any keys didn't change that, so can't help with a screenshot.

Experiencing random reboots on x86 with 5.11. We have several PPPoE B-RAS`es based on MT... Planning to downgrade to 5.10 maybe earlier.
Does the Mikrotik support team localize the problem in 5.11 yet?

We have only remote devices, no monitors or anything... But we have console connections to our mikrotik B-RASes. On consoles we have nothing. Like common reboot... How to get any debug output, kernel oops...or anything? Maybe some kind of netconsole?

After upgrading RB1100AH from 5.8 to 5.11 I have large latency spikes 5-20 ms across bridged VLAN's on port 11/12, previously latency was 0-1 ms.
I am using the RouterBoard as a transparent firewall at my network edge, bridging 4 VLAN's through 4 bridges on port 11/12.
Attached is an screenshot of the latency spikes before and after the upgrade from our network monitoring.

Dear friends!
Kernel panics or black screens... No matter. All that things are very bad. Double trouble is that developers do nothing for now and we have no any debug output or anything. I think that photos of the monitor output is not a professional way.
We need some patch or something like patch to troubleshoot the problem.

If it works, do not upgrade. If zou reallz want to upgrade go to 4.17. If zoy really need something in 5.xx upgrade to 5.4, but only if you really must.
Upgrade will usually keep configuration intact but in newere versions there is increased probability that config will be messed up, so beackup both binary and command mode before upgrade.
