From my new, humble experience, unless you have a static IP address from your ISP, it should work right out of the box. Did you have another router before the Mikrotik? If so, then the modem should be ready for it. I would turn them both off, turn on the modem, wait 1mt, then turn on the router.

------------------

If you have a static IP from your ISP, then here are some links that really helped me that I spent a good amount of time searching for when things did not work right. Its funny how the obvious is right in front of us sometimes is what I found later.

Print out this page and refer to it carefully:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:In ... figuration

Be sure to put in the network mask bit with the the static WAN IP when configuring the static WAN IP. ex. 1.1.1.1/30, 30=network mask bit
-To find that, from the link below, do class A network, static ip, subnet mask, then you will see it on the right, in my case, usually 26 or 30 for the WAN side
http://www.subnet-calculator.com/subnet.php?net_class=A

Another link for setting up static WAN info that cuts to the chase really quick and is my favorite for that:

FREE STUFF

PAID STUFF
Links and books I use and have purchased:
-This book was just released and is a 2nd edition book
http://www.wlan1.com/product_p/mikrotik%2520book-2.htm

- This one has also just been released, but is also nice
http://learnmikrotik.com/index.php?opti ... cle&id=151

They both compliment each other and are nice to have. But they are a bit pricey for home only use. So, you might find the links and the videos to be what you are needing anyways.

-------------------------------

The only advice I do not agree with that I see consistently everywhere is to clear all setup config when you 1st turn on the router or you do a system reset configuration. The best I can tell is that the firewall and nat rules that come with the latest firmware are the rules you are wanting anyways, so, why recreate when they are there already.

Hope that helps
