IP address deleted

Wed Feb 08, 2012 8:31 pm

Hi all,

I'm brand new to MikroTik and Routerboard, so I beg forgiveness for a horrible mistake we have made (we're used to using Tranzeo and Alvarion).
I bought a MAXXwave "UBTik 5G" and installed it with a Ubiquiti sector antenna on top of a water tower. It was running great, but one of my techs was logged in the Webfig interface "to learn" and apparently somehow deleted the RouterBoard's IP address.
The "UBTik 5G" is basically a nice outdoor housing for RouterBoard 711G 5Hn (running OS version 2.36)

When we remotely log in to a PC on the same IP subnet as the UBTik and fire up Winbox, it see's the RouterBoard and displays an IP address of 0.0.0.0, but we can't log into it.

Any ideas on how we can interface with it? We only have a Ethernet cable running up the tower to the board. If climbing up there to open it up and hit the reset button is what I have to do, it's what I have to do, but Aaron is fired. Fired, I tell you! Well... not fired, but he's buying us all dinner Friday night. I'm getting the steak and drinking expensive cocktails!

Please, save Aaron's bank account! (Seriously, any tricks would be a big help.)

Cheers :)

Log in with mac address.
With winbox or with mac-telnet
/tool mac-telnet
If you do not know the mac address, put "Tab"

If You are using Winbox to connect You will see "..." button near the "connect to". If you can see your routerboard click on the mac address, and then try to connect. Mac telnet is a bit slower and less stable than ip telnet, but you will be able to add address and connect again...

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried use the MAC address with Winbox and got the following error...
"Could not connect to 00:0C:42:D0:2E:1C (port 20561) - timed out!"

I'm heading out the door at the moment, but will definitely try the MAC-telnet later when I've had time to read up on it.

Thanks again!

Be sure that you have the newest version of winbox http://www.mikrotik.com/download/winbox.exe

If you can, try to reboot mikrotik, and your pc/notebook. Sometimes "timeout" does happens, and I didn't figure it out why it is happening :(

By the way -- I know it has been a while, but just to follow up...
The 'mac telnet' line commands from another functioning Routerboard worked perfectly.

Thanks all!!
