issues with 5.14 (maybe)

Sat Mar 31, 2012 4:15 am

I'm deploying some RB433AHs as wireless access points around one of our sites, and am noticing some strange behaviour in WinBox when configuring them up. In windows like IP --> Firewall rules take a long time to render. If you open other windows in Winbox it seems to "tickle" a few more rules to display, and when opening up a New Terminal from within Winbox, sometimes it takes forever to bring up the prompt, other times it disconnects the reboots the RB. It seems to be specific to Winbox (latest one from mikrotik.com) - doesn't happen via SSH, so its not the end of the world, but we tend to use WinBox a lot when troubleshooting (that being said, I know we should start using WebFig).

These are new routerboards, upgraded to 5.14 ROS & v2.39 firmware and config reset. Replicated behaviour on multiple new RBs from multiple Win7 PCs. Can anyone else verify this problem?

Do you login via MAC address? Or IP?

We have seen similar behaviour sometimes when connecting via MAC address.

On the winbox wiki page it says: "Note: It is recommended to use IP address whenever possible. MAC session uses network broadcasts and is not 100% reliable."

Great call. Initially I was going to say "but I first noticed the problem connecting over IP", but that could've very easily been a routing cockup on my part. Connecting via IP seems to be the solution. Haven't had a single pause or lockup so far.

Am wondering if its something changed in the latest rOS or something in our environment.. First time I've seen that behaviour in the 3 or so years we've been deploying routerboards. Weird!

Thanks for your help!
