Reboot from Mikrotik

Thu Jan 05, 2006 9:34 am

I have one modem which I want to restart when it fails from Mikrotik PC connected to the modem. The only way is to stop the power supply for a second with some kind of power relay. The problem is that I don't know how to output for example 3.3V sgnal from the Mikrotik PC when ping to the modem fails.

The idea is - when ping fails -> input voltage in power relay -> the relay stops supplying modem with power -> the modem is restarted

Maybe I can use beeper for this purpose or some signal from one of the COM ports

Thanks in advance

You are not helping me
This is telco modem and I can't touch it (change, configure and so on)
I have concrete question.
Maybe if I ask you how to do better QoS you will tell me to buy 155 Mbps Internet connection.

it was a logical question, first to find easier solution than what you ask. because what you ask is not possible AFAIK

What about
[admin@MikroTik] > :beep length=5s frequency=10000

the power relay interupts for 5 seconds and the modem is restarted. I will read more about scripting in Mikrotik (I don't know nothing about it now) and will test it. Then you will have the results :)
It works like GSM bombs - I think it will work :)

Did this awhile back: The speaker output was a square wave referenced to ground. Putting a small capacitor across the output (speaker removed) was good to drive a small reed relay.

Yes, you could then use BEEP in scripting to trigger it. You might also get restarted modems if you reboot MT and the bios beeps though.

If it were me I would tell telco provider to get better equipment.

If you restarted the modem every night at midnight or something would it cure it? Maybe a digitial timer from the local store.
