Password reset , cant upgrade

Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:54 pm

Hi

I have recently installed 2 new 1100AHx2 routers in our network.

For some reason the password for admin keeps resetting to blank after a few minutes.

I have tried to upgrade the RouterOS but cannot drop the files into the RB even via FTP it says "read only system".

When I change the admin password it keeps that password only for a few minutes after I have closed the session after which it resets to default blank.

Not sure if this was a security exploit

This happens on both 1100AHx2 routers

please help

Could you post /user export

How are you trying to change your password (cli, winbox, webfig)?

Make sure you upgrade to v5.17, a few versions back, there were some issues with setting passwords.

I change the password via telnet and winbox with exact same issue.

after I close the session and wait a few minutes the password resets.

I have even tried creating a new user and dropping admin.

This user works until I close the session then a few minutes later the new user is removed and default admin with no password is back.

I have tried upgrade but cannot drop the files in winbox or via FTP as it says read only system.

here is the user export

user export

You are using an old version, v5.9. As I already explained above, if you would upgrade to v5.17, you would not have this issue.

You will need to use Netinstall in that case:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall

It will fix any file system errors, and will restore unit to working condition.

Hello.

Maybe there is a similar problem with my pc and routeros.

I have a PC router(core i5) with routeros v5.20 installed and running. After some time of running(20 days last time) the router somehow lost the password and now there is no password set. It is imposibble to download a file or upload it. There is no license shown and so on...

Even similar thinks are happening:
------------------------------------------
[admin@Router21-O2-i5] > user export
# oct/18/2012 22:18:11 by RouterOS 5.20
# software id =
#

Console has crashed; please log in again.
------------------------------------------

Any changes made in the config is not saved after restarting the router but the password is recovered and everythink is working fine for some time. The same error was present with routeros v5.17. That's why I tried an upgrade first. I'm using a NAT, lot of queues, some scheduler tasks but nothing special.

Is there any help or solution? (don't want to restart it periodically)
Thanks for Your oppinion.
