Hello, is it worh to upgrade the R52nm to R52HN?
I mean I need more tx power, but I only see 23 to 25 that is 2dbm increase?
And why then the R52HN needs 4 times more power itself than R52nm?

Don't look at just peak power, the R52HN has more power all the way across the band.

I think the R52nM drops to around 11-14dB at the highest bitrate, R52HN is more like 17-20.

Yes the R52HN is better about ~3dB, but I read that everybody has terrible overheating/stability problem with this card. Or is the problem somehow resolved.

The R52nM is rated at 23dba max, doesn't that mean I can safely set like 20dba tx power for all frequencies. Furthermore why isn't there a protection built in that you would not damage the card if tx power set to high? I mean why routerOS even would allow to set the tx power too hign value, it would be easy to limit this via software?

I've had a couple of DOA's. Swapped them out, didn't have any problems.

As far as running the card lower than max output, I do that with quite a bit of my equipment.

We have not had any problems with R52Hn either. They are a good choice.

We use a lot of them and they all operate at default txpwr. Can't say these cards are very good, but they are ok. Recently we had few factory defective ones with low tx. All were from the same party.

am I missing something here, the R52nM is listed as 23dbm max, yet my card at default speeds tx is 20 chain 0 20chain0 so combines is 23dbm. I tried to run them at manually set 23dbm as the spec sheet said and noticed increased signal CCQ got to 80% instead if usual 30%.

But can I run this card set on 23dbm manually won't it get damaged running at the max?

So my idea was was to get R52HN and run it at manually set tx of 23dbm that is lower than spec sheet.

By the way if set to default doesn't the cards auto adjust the tx based on signal strenght from client connected? I thought that indoors usage clearly states that the card needs to auto adjust the tx.

Don't change TX power from default unless you are lowering the power.

You will burn up the card. It is just a matter of time.

23dBm is both chains at 20dBm. The way the decibel system works is 17 + 17 = 20, 20 + 20 = 23.

Every 3 up is double, every 3 down is half. When you have two half Watt transmitters working together it is EIRP of 1 Watt.

It may run at 23dBm for 2 weeks or 2 years, but I wouldn't push it.

The R52Hn I've used work fine past the initial setup. The one (or couple, can't remember) that I had fail died while stress testing the system on the ground after about 24 hours. The ones that survived that have given no problems.

Can you give some mac range of those low tx r52hn, will be usefull for others. I ask, because I have some doubts for 2 of mine.
