alternatives to Mikrotik original ACSWI / ACSWIM antennas?

Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:43 pm

Hello, anyone compared the ACSWI/ACSWIM antennas? How do they compare to third party, D-link, TP-link, Sweex etc. Why Mikrotik orginal antennas are so short I mean 11cm come on it can't be 4dbi, 3dbi at best.

I got these antennas because I could not source alternatives locally, but it seems I made a mistake purchasing them.

I have R52nm in my mikrotik but my link quality is not very good (3bars best) 2 walls from router, I'm considering to upgrade the wifi card to R52HN but given the fact that 52HN has 7W power draw compared to 2W for R52nm I'm thinking maybe I should upgade the antennas first?

The stock antennas ACSWI / ACSWIM are nice because you do not need to use pigtail adapter and loose yet another about 1dbi.

Is it true that dual band antennas are crap and I need single band 2.4ghz antenna instead even same 4dbi gain will be way better?

Who makes nice dualband antennas like mikrotik but 6dbi, 7dbi or 8dbi and up to 22-30cm in lenght? I would prefer not to loose the dual band thing, because antennas are not cheap and 5ghz is interference free where I live, the only problem that my older devices does not support 5ghz so I can't use it for now.

I found a german antenna site http://www.wimo.de they have all sorts of antennas. They are not cheap - they are expensive

So here are specification for 2.4 and 5Ghz antennas, what do you think?

2.4Ghz antennas
http://wimo.de/cgi-bin/verteiler.pl?url ... nas_e.html

30cm
V.S.W.R: <2.0
Gain: 7dBi
Impedance: 50Ω ± 5Ω
Max. power: 2W
http://wimo.de/download/17015.x.pdf
22.70Eur

5Ghz antennas
http://wimo.de/cgi-bin/verteiler.pl?url ... nas_e.html

5.1 - 5.5 GHz
V.S.W.R <2.0
Gain: 7dBi
20cm.
Impedance: 50Ω ± 5Ω
Max. power: 5W

Also I found this http://www.zdacomm.com manufacturer that looks like typical made in china stuff.
Somehow you can't find anything by manufacturer product number, but I found this shop:
http://www.wlan-shop24.de/products/en/W ... -9dBi.html

Some specs are way off like every antenna has 50W max power rating
After this I doubt you can trust other specifications as that can be a typo too... but they are cheap 5-7Eur.

Why does mikrotik list their antennas as 4dbi ant other sellers list them as 2dbi?
So what is the true dbi value?
