Well in that case we need to talk over the phone because I always have great ideas lol. Also if you are to by the baseboard RB2011UAS-2HND without the case, can you add your own custom LCD panel or ? Don't care about the touch screen in particular.

I dont understand why Mikrotik have put a micro-USB port on the RB2011UAS-2HnD.

The PCB has the provision for a real USB port, its just one more ugly adapter hanging out the front, and micro-usb is no where near as mechanically secure as full sized USB

The LCD screen look like an after-thought, having it on the top just means it will get scratched from items being placed on top. Great idea, but a 1U case with it on the front. Or a nice stand up case like the Thomson tg589 has with LCD on the front, ports on the back would be fantastic.

I will get one RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN I think its awesome! Yeah ! I wish it had a proper USB port to plug in 3g dongles, wimax dongles, usb Wi-Fi dongles, usb ethernet, usb hubs, usb storage, usb to serial so on

yes, just like with any USB RouterBOARD model

sample on my desk did work with USB flash plugged into microUSB-to-USB cable.

- take the biscuit with us when we go out and share with friends

Same goes for any such 3g solutions - optimal are not the USB dongles but the Wi-Fi sharing portable "CPE"s.

Hmmm. I have been thinking about it and I believe I know why they did what they did. If you look at the shape of their cute little 2011 wall mount frame, then you will notice that they couldn't adequately allow for all sizes of USB devices, which is why they put the mini usb extension cable. I foresee using some double sided tape with a 3G modem for installation.

Also, the placement of the LCD makes sense too if you think of it being wall mounted on the cute lil frame. This way the LCD will actually be facing forward. Hey NZ Monkey, put an ipod screen protector on the LCD

It is an inconvenience to have to go to the resellers for this small thing - the trip and time will cost more than 10 euro for sure, if you count the time - the cost may get INSANE.

They are cheap/noname but from what I've seen - reliable enough.

We need this connection to be very physically (and otherwise) stable not to unplug or wiggle by themselves even if something is hanging on the cable itself.

But we don't want to ugly-fi our installation with hanging usb devices.

I suggest MikroTik to manufacture these with really high control for quality and make them for long-life and supply these cables in the box with the router.

Something about the convenience must be done. We can't have things just hanging out of the router. Some sort of mount for 3g dongles should be made available.

My point isn't about availability or cost, but about reliability and necessity. My experience with micro-USB connectors is that they are not very rugged, which means it is easy for them to become damaged or accidentally disconnected. Looking at the image on RouterBoard.com, it looks like there would have been room for a full-sized USB Type-A port (vertically), or at least a Type-B, both of which are much more secure--and in the case of Type-A, would not require a cable for most USB peripherals.

Rackmount 2011 would be a godsend.I'm busy moving my p2p wireless clients over to fiber as their primary link and that would be an absolute lifesaver.

A product with less power. Not the blasting 1W + stuff which Mikrotik is heading towards. But with high TX/RX sensitivity and Metal shields and high gain antennas, surge protection.
The SXT and Grooves were a good start but that much power makes it good only for CPE. I am sure it is going to affect when used as AP with all the power u have added on. I would still wish to see a SXT with decent 400mW 25 dbi antenna, metal shield enclosure and higher TX/RX sensitivity

I'm very excited about RB2011!

I would like to +1 for the full size USB-A host port. Perhaps put the full size port in the rackmount case?

I would also like to see a variant with the SFP and USB but without wireless (RB2011ULS?) as these would make excellent managed broadband CPE routers.

I dont know what brand. But works all 1,25Gbit SFP Modules.

In my opinion what is still missing are:

1) ADSL port with PPPoE and PPPoA (PPPoE is already there but xDSL and PPPoA support is still missing). I think that the board and the router version of the same product (possibly also with Wi-Fi) will be appreciated

2) SFP port on "tower" products, e.g. 411A + fiber port. This is because most of us are still fighting with the broadcasting interference and etherner over fiber would be appreciated

Probably because the xDSL market is controled by the ITU and shared only among a few companies (Broadcom, Siemens, ...)

But this annoys me each day.
It's basically impossible to buy a regular DSL modem nowadays that does not have some buggy router software glued onto it, which makes a Cisco 886VA for > 300€ the "cheapest" "trustworthy" "modem" I could buy.

Also most countries have speed limits on roads, but BMW can go 280KMh. High maximum simply means you can use it, when you need it. RB2011 has MMCX inside, you can use it in a different case, with external antenna.

Matter of taste. So far, absolute majority are very happy with the new design. This is our most demanded product right now.

I didn't see this answered and might be of use to someone. Yes, RJ45 serial like a Cisco cable. That's what I used on the RB2011 sitting on my desk right now.
