VLAN Trunking on RB751G-2HnD

Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:28 pm

Hello,

Just bought RB751G-2HnD device, based on Atheros8327 according to Mikrotik Wiki.

My ISP provide me services based on VLANs: IPTV(vlan id = 80) and Internet (vlan id = 2010).

Port 1 (Ether1) links to my ISP.
I need to "map" port 5 to IPTV service, it is connected to TVBox.
Rest of them (2..4) to Internet service (vlan2010), want them work as a switch, same interface (i have static ip).

I see (in winbox) 8327 chip have some switch functionality based on vlan, vlan ids, ports, tables etc...
Also, in interfaces, there can be added VLAN interfaces, and link physical ports in bridges?? (i'm not expert)

I'm a litle confused, wich method should I choose? Switch/Vlans or Interface/Vlans+Bridges?
If any is ok, wich have better performances and consume less cpu power?

Please give me some start points, any config samples, steps are welcome!
Thanks in advice!

Do you want to just forward the IPTV vlan to port 5? Not route it or anything, just forward/bridge it?
The other vlan, do you want to terminate that on the RB and have it as the external IP of your router? To clarify let's say you have vlan 2010 and on that vlan you have IP 1.1.1.1. Then you have your intranet on ports 2,3 and 4 and they are on 192.168.1.0/24. You want your intranet to be able to access Internet and be masqueraded through 2010 vlan's IP. The other vlan, 80, goes straight in on port 1 (tagged) and goes out untagged on port 5. Do I have the right scenario?
