AP dropping RF but not Client with WDS

Fri Jan 27, 2006 11:43 pm

Hi Guys

We have recently testing WDS

Intel 2.4GHz Rackmount PC running OS 2.9.11

2 x 100mW Atheros (Disabled, replaced with SR5 two days ago)

2 x SR5 Atheros each MiniPCI radio in it's own one way PCi adaptor

2 x V.P. Sector antenna, each are seperated vertically by 1M with 6M run of coax 3/4 Heliax

We are testing the change over to WDS and also PPPoE to a radius on the Wireless Router LAN.

We are noticing the are a lot of disconnections in the Wirleless Reg Table on the AP running WDS. This also reflects in the PPPoE connections dropping off the raduis server. Also showing the same affect on normal station clients.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How ever, this is the interesting part we have seen before, the clients (WDS Slave Mode) wireless reg table is saying the link has been up for over 1d. This shows on all customers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This makes me think something to do with the AP end.

**** We have sent a support file to MikroTik. ****

Here are the Wireless Configurations

2 x SR5 AP Bridge WDS on Sector Antenna OS 2.9.11

I do not recall seeing this problem noted in the forum before, is there anyone else out there that has had the some problem. Very confusing for us.

There is also a lot of deauth comming through in the log, have see this was undate in the OS in Ver 2.9.8.

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Any one from MikroTik that can comment on any tests we can do?

We are changing from the client and testing signal uptimes in station-wds/wds-client/bridge modes.

Because of contuining problems with WDS, we are scrapping our 2.4GHz motherboard etc and installing indervidual RB500 for each WLAN and sector.

There has been no help from anyone in the forum or MikroTik.

We are not very happy at the moment, trying to work out why our Clients RF signals are dropping out at the AP end and not at the Client end. It is not good trying to work out what is going wrong for 16-18 hrs a day

NOTE: If this does not work, then we will not be using MikroTik for WDS in the future.

Same problem!

can not make WDS connection with D-Link DWL-2100AP to the mikrotik 2.9.6 with Dlink-G520 on board, D-Link DWL-900ap+ and DWL-1000AP+ connects to the mikrotik using WDS perfectly, but 2100 not at all...
i try mikrotik 2.9.12 and another 2100, and 7100, same results...some times it connects for 1-2 minutes, then disconnect again, in registration list connection present Tx/Rx Rate 54Mbps/1Mbps, in statistic menu Tx/Rx Packets (some number)/0, all Tx-(some number)/Rx-0...
I try D-Link-G510 & AG530 in mikrotik, resulth the same...

Still having problems with WDS.

What signal strenghts do you guys get with WDS signals?

We have from high 60 to 82dB receive signals. The AP end seams to allways loose the RF connection but the client end stays up. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve?

What are the other options for us if we wanted to bridge wireless and LAN while running PPPoE over a VLANs.

Look forward to your comments.

What firmware are you using with the WRT devices? I have a lot of WDS links between Routerboards and WRT's and they are rock stable. I have RSSI's spreading from 60-85.. I use the "mini" version of DD-WRT firmware, disable all unnessesary services like routing and 802.1x and set it up. Never breaks down..

//Matt

Try to change your manual Tx power setting to default or to 21.
and put Periodic calibration to Enabled.
And update to 2.9.13 then u use the new Wierless drivers.

After many weeks of testing with customers in the middle of the night, I belive we have resolved the issue of disconnecting customers on WDS.

RSTP-Test package enabled at both ends, AP-Bridge with WDS and customers in Station-WDS mode.

Yes, happy customers :)

Are you saying that enabling the RSTP package solved your problem?

We were having some odd problems with SR2 cards until we upgraded to 2.9.12+. Looks like there were some major changes to the driver in that release. I think that is where the wireless-test package became the production package. I'm sure alot had to do with that upgrade.

Yes, I belive so, we have tried so many things over the past months and it seems to have solved our WDS disconnection problems.

Because of the new RSTP-test package, our wireless signals at our AP-Bridge now say up as long as the client end shows. Read my earlier posts.

Before, the RF signal at the AP-bridge would drop and reconnect and this would disable the PPPoE connection and it would take 30-60 sec for the VLAN to reconnect for the PPPoE authentication to function.

The system is now functioning with happy customers.

What settings are you using for RSTP?
Everytime we install/enable the RSTP-test package, it kills our bridge for some reason and the unit(s) becomes unreachable.
Have not been able to figure out the reason yet...

wds-mode=dynamic wds-default-bridge=corebridge wds-default-cost=100 wds-cost-range=50-150 wds-ignore-ssid=no

You must create a bridge (corebridge) and asign your WLAN and Ether ports to it.

Hope this helps

we have that.
it is a fully functioning system, WDS just like your example, that all we change is to install/enable rstp-test package and it goes to heck...

please email to support@mikrotik.com about your problem and include the support output file which is made when the unit isn't working correctly.
