Omni 12dBi vs grid 22dBi - both 5.8Ghz

I replaced Pacific Wireless grid antenna 5.8Ghz 22dBi with some black omni antenna which is supposed to be 12dB (as my supplier said), but I could see even better diagrams, something like 15-21dBi. Still, it works very badly and I have signal which is about 19dB weaker than with grid. I have signal with this omni arround -68 -69 and with grid it drops to -50. Is this normal? I used the same cable, so this is not anything else and omni antenna is brand new, no watter in cables and similar things. Any suggestions are welcome.

 Do you use the omni for a PtP link or PtmP... If you use for a PtP of course you will have much less signal, the omni if designed for PtmP it was 360º of radius but it have about 5º to 10º of aperture, and it have much less gain...

Regards..

I use it for multipoint base, of course. I want to connect several links to it, short, 2-3km. This way worked with Hyperlink antenna in some other project. I had average signal of -65 in that case.

Sorry for this non-English comment.

I had experience with 3 models of 5GHz omni antennas and conclusion is that you should use 5GHz omni just if it is completely necessary. The best one seems to be Hyperlink HG5812U-PRO, but still, this is far away from point to point link with grid antennas. Even worse thing is that this antenna is quite expensive.

Another one, quite good but cheaper antenna is Q-5100A. This is some small gray antenna, I don't know the manufacturer, probably Chinesse. It is declared for 5150-5250 MHz, but works quite fine up to 5.8GHz. It maybe gains few dB less than Hyperlink, but you can buy it for 65% of money you need for Hyperlink.

Finally, the small black antenna I mentioned when I started this thread is the worst of these three. This is some Chinesse antenna, but it seems that the same factory makes very good omni antennas for 2.4 band. This 2.4 omni antenna is white and much bigger than Hyperlink 15dB 2.4 and it gains few dB more than Hyperlink. That's all folks :)

This is 1-2km distance. I expected at worse -65, but more logical was to get something like -62 or -63.
