My RB751G-2HnD is very slow

Thu Nov 15, 2012 1:09 am

Hello,
I have a 2mbit adsl connection. I connect directly to my adsl modem and I reach around 220KBytes in download.
Now I add a RB751G-2HnD connected to the modem.
I have routeros 5.21
I use "quick set" feature to configure it as an access point and I change only wpa password and lan ip.

Now I get only 50KBytes downloads on wireless AND wired internet.

Why?

Please tell me the wrong setting.

Thanks in advance,
Mario

Plug in directly to the 751 (without wireless) and do a speedtest.

If by speed test you mean a thing like www.speedtest.net I have already done it.
It gives me the same results: 50KB and a somewhat higher ping, 105 ms and not 50/60.
I have done it on wireless and wired.

I have tried also configuring it from scratch without using "quick set" but the result is the same.
I am seeing stats: no loss of packets in any interface. Low ping means that adsl download channel is not saturated.
So it seems that someone is slowing down tcp.

Can you help me?

Duplex mismatch or bad cable(s) will cause this too.

Some ISP's hard code their 100Mb port to full duplex. An auto detecting 100Mb port might negotiate half duplex when the other end is full duplex.

Configure your WAN port as full duplex and see if it gets better.

Change out cords. Make sure they are all 4 pairs crimped.

Try Megapath's speed test if you are in the US.

I have solved the problem. I have changed cable without luck.
Then I discovered a lot of crc errors and they were increasing. So I forced 10mbit from rb751 to modem and bingo: all goes nice now.

But I am not satisfied: why I had to force 10mbit? The modem with a notebook or a pc works at 100 mbit.
