Any chance there will be one of these on the US East Coast?
TX is a whole continent away from us on this side of the country...

SMA

probably not, so maybe you should come this time. you are in the same country at least. some people fly halfway around the world to get to the mum

Posted: Mon Mar 27, 2006 5:41 pm
by BurstNET
Other countries are actually closer to us than Texas... :-(
Such as Canada....
Toronto is only a 6-7 hour drive...

I suppose they should have the MUM in the middle of Montana where most of us in the US live.. :P

Dallas, TX is fairly centralized. If you can only do one in the US, doing East or West coast is financially unfair to half of the attendees either way. We should be happy that they are coming to the US to meet with us in the first place. I live in Texas, and I am still 4 hours away by car. If it takes more than 4 hours, fly Southwest and you will be there in 4 hours of less for $99. Probably less than you would spend on gas

Agreed, DFW is about as central USA as it gets with a great International Airport.

Was a decision ever made on a steakhouse?

Best,

If you are really looking for a steakhouse in downtown Dallas, I suggest the Hoffbrau Steakhouse. Mmmmm good.

There is a Saltgrass Steakhouse pretty close to the airport near Six Flags (a theme park in Arlington). It's pretty good, about $18-$35 for a decent steak.
The previously mention Hofbroau is really good, but its in "The West End" at
downtown Dallas which is going to be a pretty long drive from the conference
area. On the other hand, the West End is a really fun area and very alive
and happening on the weekend. Also, the West End is extremely close to where Kennedy got shot and you can check out "the grassy gnoll" and other cool stuff.

Not sure I can be called a "regular forum user", but I will be there, too. I will be doing a presentation on VPN technology. I'm really looking forward to this meeting, as I plan to learn a LOT. There are going to be some really smart people there, and I plan to take full advantage of any opportunities to gain a bit of knowledge and learn from their experience.

Well, I have to say it was great. Training class was good, lots of info in a short time. I have used Mikrotik for a year but learned tons in the advanced class. Thanks guys. MUM was very good. Met lots of people and lots of ideas tossed around. Then there was the beer and cigars.....
Again, thanks for a great event!

I have to say I totally enjoyed the MUM. I learned alot about ROS that I never knew it was capable of, and have already started replacing other OS's in my networks with RouterOS. The guys from Mikrotik really know their stuff, I hope someday I can visit Latvia and see all those pretty ladies they told me about. :)

Hope you guys didn't get into too much trouble at the airport with that capacitor Uldis bought.... lol

Dmitry, send me a copy of those pics John took with your camera of you guys crammed in the back seat of my car! Hope you all enjoyed the visit to Texas, hope we can do it again next year!

There were some problems with capacitor, luckily, Uldis managed to bring it to Latvia :)

I had no chance to try ROS on your laptop, yet.

I thought about you guys when the news reports came in about some people being detained at the airport, and hoped I didn't have to come visit you in jail.

Glad to hear you made it home ok, no worries on the laptops. When I got back to Houston Saturday, a storm had come through and lightning destroyed everything on my main tower (6 wrap boards, 4 sr2 cards, 2 sr5 cards, 24 port managed switch, 5 power supplies, 6 poe injectors, one sector antenna, and the nic in my core server). I spent the entire week climbing the 400ft tower, repairing and upgrading everything and hopefully it will last awhile.

Really enjoyed hanging out with you guys Eugene, tell everyone I said hello, and remind Tully he still owes me a steak dinner!
