Hi
please submit your views on what do you think about a Mikrotik propriotiry solution for FTTx
i am starting this thread thinking Mikrotik will have a look on this and consider this for us
some rough maths
Existing solution
One single port OLT(Server end equipment) can serve 32 customers and costs about $1000 on alibaba.com and local vendor
and each ONT(Customer end equipment) costs about $100 with cost of router extra
Router cost RB2011 about $100
so total price for 128 customers is
Server end $1000x4= $4000
Each client end for ONT and router $200
for 32 customers $200*128=$25600
so total solution for 32 customer is about $29600 !!!!!!!!!!!
Purposed solution
we will put some cheap sfp module on ros and will use mikrotik propriotary protocol like the NV2 in wireless so the cost would be
Server end CCR1036-12G-4S $1000 + 4sfp $10 total $1040
Customer end
RB2011 $100 + SFP $10 total $110
for 128 customers $110x128=$14080
Server end+ client end cost $14080+$1040=$15120
TOTAL SAVINGS IN 128 customers IS $14480 !!!!!
No if you want this solution then reply here and on poll so that Mikrotik will feel the necessaty

You will use splitter on those sfp? Have u seen if this cheap sfp is compatible with Ros? Sounds interesting.

Your cost calculations do not include any solution for encryption for your endpoints.

please read carefully about what I posted
i wanted to mikrotik to develop a Protocol that can use cheap sfp converters and tfma to allow PON like system and ofcourse we want to use optical splitter on that
and what do you meany be encryption??

A TDMA based solution would require clock accuracy similar to what is required of OLTs (or suffer a larger overhead to accommodate poorer clock accuracy) so I suspect that you may as well use SFP format OLTs and get the savings from those fast becoming mass produced items.

clock accuracy should not be an issue
Mikrotik can define the hardware compatibility or we can use the same SFP at both ends so there should not be clocking issue

At the first post "Existing solution"
Ur wrong we use gepon and for 32 costumers its much much more cheaper
OLT=1500$ - have two ports can serve 2*64 costumers=128
ONU=60$ - end point costumer -This ONU is manageable so u dont have to install extra router except if the costumer want but he will pay for router
if u do a mat its 9180$ for 128 costumers
I cant understand second part of ur first post "Purposed solution"
but it does not work like that, they dont have to develop a Protocol
just it simple like that - they can use Teknovus chip set and can make on there own gepon system
like what planet,CBS,broadcom... did

if it's so simple why Mikrotik is not doing that

Ok - well tell that to all the OLT/ONT manufacturers!
I'll wait for the prices to drop and use a system that doesn't depend on wishful thinking!

Yes I want it.
Encription is not an issue, there are already many solutions in MT.. even good old RT tunnel should work
Mikrotik NON-propitiatory solution for FTTx

Mikrotik needs to be looking at both Active-Fiber and G-Pon-Fiber NOC located fiber switches (NON-propitiatory). And -- this is a big one -- and Mikrotik needs to support 3rd party ONTs.
Take a look at Adtran (TA5000) and the Calix fiber switches.
Adtran is expanding to support many 3rd party low cost ONTs.
Calix has plenty of Calix ONTs.
There are plenty of existing specifications of FTTx. Making a propitiatory FTTx system is just a way to run a company out of business.
FYI - at my work - we will be deploying 3,000 to 4,000 customer fiber ONTs this summer. For the $ amount this is gonna cost me, I am not about to deploy a propitiatory solution from a company that has almost no large scale fiber experience.
