Hardware for ISP - quality of RB

Tue Feb 12, 2013 10:19 am

Hi,
in recent times we have so many prolems with Routerboard HW.
RB 800 (many boards, ROS 5.22)
1. bloated capacitors - many routerboards
2. overheating
3. sometimes is wireless visible (R52n), sometimes is not
4. totally frozen (ping watchdog is not work)

RB 435G (many boards, ROS 5.22)
1. After change frequency down to 400MHz - Dead
2. Router rebooted beause kernel - periodicaly, cannot upgrade ROS, New firmware update ok, but not fixed.
3. I was connected to wireless client to IP on wireless card, I disabled ethernet and routerboard is not avalible on wireless now. - Dead

RB 711xx (many boards, ROS 5.22)
1. After change the setings a disconnect power supply and reconect it will short the circuit - Dead
- this has happened to me many times/routerboards

Im tired to do many RMA to get a new one.

My question are: where the problem in HW? , in China? Could be avallible Hight quality (some) products for WISP (APs) ?
Why do Mikrotik milion of types/version of the same Routerboard ie.711 ?
Can be only 3 types of 711
-711 MIMO client 2,4G 2,4Gn 5G 5Gn (like R52n card)
-711 MIMO AP 2,4G 2,4Gn 5G 5Gn (like R52n card)
-711 MIMO AP 2,4G 2,4Gn 5G 5Gn (like R52n card) + USB, slots, and other things.

This will be more easy, (cheaper) for everybody (traiders, costumers, wisps).
I do not want to go to ubiquiti. We spend a lot of money because of service Mikrotik Routerboards

Have a nice Day

If you have the problem with overheating then change the case of RB800 to bigger one, there is a lot of boxes on the market, don't close it in the smallest as you found :)

1 and 2 are the problem of overheating, the rest can be also caused by overheating.

Every electronic device requires some ventilation, it's obvious.

Hi,

- it, because it is running very stable and without any failures! Or do you perhaps use it outdoors?
++We used 95% of RB outdoors in big boxes (since year 2005). The temperature (from temp. senseor si between ap. -5C to 55 C) Ie. 35x60x10cm for each RB.

- Please give me your vote for that under: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66090
++I Did, but I don´t want to buy spare parts. I would like to buy once a good capacitors onboard + good desing of components (+20USD for it is not a big problem). Sevice of the failed board is more expensive. Sometimes I changed a bad cap. to a better new one.

- Indoor or outdoor or perhaps both?
++In This case was indoor in metal box

- Interferences with other WLAN equipment perhaps?
++ Not visible in ROS, no wlan are written in internace table.

-4. totally frozen (ping watchdog is not work) With which RBs?
++ It was RB435G

-3. I was connected to wireless client to IP on wireless card, I disabled ethernet and routerboard is not avalible on wireless now.
++Edit: I´m 100% sure I disabled ehternet, but the ROS disabled wireless !. Good job, 50 customers wihout the Internet connection.

Add more
upgrade from 5.20 to 5.22 on RB435G
1) uprade firmware on 5.20
2) reboot
3) upload the file 5.22
4) reboot
5) dead
Nice

J.

basically RB cheap enough to "pick/buy a new after fault/failed/downed one" in case of HW issues/KIA.
RB presently not supply carrier-grade HW, except CCR, maybe[or extremely cute and reliable outdoor Wi-Fi stuff :].
all RB's i knew works perfectly on up-to-mid-sized ISP's[in custom-built racks, usually], but thats because market lack of such devices[functional and wasn't ridiculously costly], rather than MT specifically aimed toward that segment, IMO.
