CCR1016-12G Kernal Failure

Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:54 am

Just got in two of these new units. We setup one as our PPPoE via RADIUS authentication router to replace an older MK x86 system that has been running for many years. The entire config from the old MK unit was moved over to the new one via /export command.

Unit was read to go, running perfectly. We moved the cables over to the new unit to put it live. It IMMEDIATELY starts rebooting constantly with a kernel panic error message on the LCD screen. What the heck?

I know this config works... Is there anything strange in the new CCR routers that we need to watch out for that would cause this kernel panic? version is 6.0rc11

We have multiple ports bridged, we have PPPoE & RADIUS authentication enabled. Nothing we have setup should cause a CRASH like this!?! HELP!!

UPDATE - I gave up and went back to my RB1100AHx2. I'll wait until more solid firmware is available.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

You would likely be able to see and record the kernel panic message by connecting a serial console cable to the MikroTik x86 box and a PC I suspect most terminal emulation software for your PC will have the ability to log the serial traffic. Then you will be able to find the panic in the log after it happens.

did you upgrade to RouterOS v6rc12 as it was suggested on the box ? it will fix a lot of issues, rc12 looks very good right now

Upgraded to ROS v6 RC12 yes. It caused a TON of kernal failures and random reboots. It's very buggy, at least with our config.

We purchased two CCR1036 as well and both do the same thing.

In that case, please connect a serial cable to catch the full kernel failure output, and send it to support. Include your supout.rif file and description of what caused the issue. We can probably fix it quite quickly

Is there a fixe yet, we have been getting kernal errors, driving us mad and upsetting lots of customers.

We need a fix ASAP. These are some the errors that the MT emailed when back online

kernel failure 7
kernel failure 1
kernel failure 5
kernel failure 1970

can you try to lower the CPU frequency to 1GHz and see if this changes anything?

But the cpu isn't over loaded 1% most of the time
We also see errors when ever you plug into a Ethernet port this causes all pppoe sessions to drop?
