Using PSK with L2TP client

Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:45 pm

Hi all,

I wish to connect my RouterBOARD (951-2n) to an L2TP VPN with a pre-shared key and route all data to the VPN server. I have set up the L2TP client in Winbox, but I just cannot get my head around adding the pre-shared key in IPsec. I have read the Mikrotik wiki and anything I can Google to help me out, but I am still none the wiser with peers and policies! Can anyone explain this here in straightforward terms?

Thanks,
Mark.

Did you read this Wiki article ?
In RouterOS IPSec phase 1 is 'Peer', phase 2 is 'Proposal' and 'Policies', so set your pre-shared key in 'Peer'.

I hadn't seen that, no, and certainly helped shine a little light on things. I have since been able to get PPTP working though and as encryption isn't especially important to me (I want the VPN for IP geolocation more than the security) then this has solved my problem.

Thanks for that though, your assistance is appreciated.
