[Solved]Recover from "No Default Configuration" System Reset

I was planning to start with a clean slate with an RB450G and version 5.24 and when I went to

System>Reset Configuration in winbox

... I checked the box that said "No Default Configuration"

and then clicked the "Reset Configuration" Button.
No Default Configuration Reset.PNG
Now winbox will not detect the MAC address, and I can't log back into the router using winbox.

I am following the steps as posted here: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Initial_M ... Connection

I have also tried rebooting while holding the S301 Reset Button, and have even rebooted while jumpering the ROS Hole. Still nothing.

What's going on?

Thanks for the help.

Hi TDPsGM,

I have found that sometime MT hardware doesnt reset even if you reset it (?), try once again (couple of times!) to reset it with reset button (you have to hold it during the powerup, and release once ACT stops flashing - aprox 10s)

get netinstall, enable net boot, set IP to same subnet as your PC, hold reset button until user light stops flashing, it will kick in etherboot, and you will be able to flash it with fresh ROS.

Is the ethernet adapter on your computer set to DHCP?

Thanks for the response petrisimo. No, that didn't seem to help.
Just for my own understanding, was putting a check in the "No Default Configuration" a bad thing? I am guessing that it "Blanked" everything including the Routers Ether 1 IP and is why I can't get back in.

Thanks dravnieks.
This is Ultimately what I had to do.

I followed these instructions here as they were very clear, easy to follow, and easy to understand; something I have found difficult to find with regards to MikroTik documentation as a whole. Hopefully it helps someone else too.

http://www.mikrotik.com.my/reinstalling ... rial-port/

The only thing that I had to change was that I could NOT check the "Keep Old Configuration" Checked.
The install would hang flat out, and NOTHING would start at all, as I think it was wiped completely out.
I unchecked the "Keep Old Configuration" and set the:
IP address: to 192.168.1.1/24
Gatway: 192.168.1.1
Baud Rate: I set to max - but I don't have a serial connection anyway, so it doesn't matter I guess.

... and the install went off with out a hitch in less than a minute.

Again, only difference that I faced was, I think, ( . . . and I am only guessing here and maybe someone can clarify for those who may run into the same problem) by selecting the "No Default Configuration" option while resetting the routers configuration that it blanked the IP for Ether1's port. I would have thought that logging in using a MAC address would not have mattered, but if you have to set your computer to be on the same subnet as the router and the router doesn't have one set for Ether1 . . . well then you are screwed like I was.

Can anyone who has more experience with the configuration reset settings confirm this?
It would be nice to know.
Is the ethernet adapter on your computer set to DHCP?

Thanks for the reply donjames. I appreciate the help. Setting to DHCP or attempting to set the IP to the same subnet didn't seem to make a difference.

Did you read the instructions about the command?

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Co ... tion_Reset
Configuration Reset

Command name: /system reset-configuration
Description

The command clears all configuration of the router and sets it to the default including the login name and password ('admin' and no password), IP addresses and other configuration is erased, interfaces will become disabled. After the reset command router will reboot.
Command Description

keep-users: keeps router users and passwords
no-defaults: doesn't load any default cofigurations, just clears everything
skip-backup: automatic backup is not created before reset, when yes is specified
run-after-reset: specify export file name to run after reset

Warning: If the router has been installed using netinstall and had a script specified as the initial configuration, the reset command executes this script after purging the configuration. To stop it doing so, you will have to reinstall the router.
