2.9.14 Install on CF in Mini-ITX Board

Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:33 pm

I'm trying to install version 2.9.14 on a new CF card in a Mini-ITX system. The installation goes fine until it gets to the part that says, "Installation Complete" and then the system just hangs. Rebooting the system hangs after it checks the disks and finds them ok.

Any ideas? Installed it twice with the same results.

Try with another CF card. This look like hardware issue in the card.

But it boots and installs just fine? Could it be a conflict with some device?

Listen to my advice ;) Just TRY with another one. I had some strange situation with a few Kingston cards. Replaced it with some no-name and worked OK.
But, if the installation fails with the second CF, we will discuss further

I've also seen some non CF compliant cards (look for the logo) not work like this. Also check to make sure you are using the primary channel of IDE, not secondary or other. You may also want to set BIOS to the exact parameters of the disk instead of using auto detect.

I had this problem with 32mb cards in wraps, but when I used 256mb card it seemed to work fine.

I have a friend that the same thing happens when he also uses a 32mb card.

Ok, I'll give it a try! These are 128MB Kodak cards.

Ok, it wasn't the flash cards. I'm installing in a Mini-ITX board with a separate PCMCIA/CF adapter that uses a daughter card. When I remove the daughter board, the system boots fine. With the card installed, it hangs.

Any idea why the daughter card would hang the system? This is with nothing plugged into it.
