verizon evdo support added

Sun Mar 12, 2006 11:11 pm

anyone else testing with the new verizon broadband cdma support?

i have gotten it to work, but have not been able to get the speed over 200k. using the card directly or in the kyocera kr1 router works fine and of course i get average evdo speeds of 600k-800k.

not sure if there is a special modem-init i should be using, anyone else have any luck? i am using the kyocera kpc650.

Well, I can get it to work ... haven't gotten to point of checking through put yet, but I do have a different problem. What platform are you using it on? I have it on soekris 4521 and it recycles as soon as you try and connect it with both the wlan and card running. Either one by them selves no problem. Both, recycles. The card can be in and disabled, and it will work, but not if both are enabled. You have this problem?

Uldis:
i have had it working for awhile actually, you guys had added support for larger packets in the 2.9.18 release, and that solved my problem. i am getting 600k-1.8mb depending on signal quality.

Blankman:
i have quite a few soekris 4511's lying around, so i have been using those lately for testing. was going to try it out in a routerboard 230 in the next week or so. but so far with the 4511 i have not had any problem with the kpc650 and a 200mw prism minipci card running at the same time.

there is also another post where others have posted their working configs and results:

I just picked up a KPC650 card today (verizon wireless) and am unable to get MT to see the card as a port ... anyone else having this problem? 2.9.22.

[sysop@MikroTik] > /system resource pci print
# DEVICE VENDOR NAME IRQ
0 02:00.1 NEC Corporation USB (rev: 67) 9
1 02:00.0 NEC Corporation USB (rev: 67) 9

3 01:04.0 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado]... 10
4 01:03.0 Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c475 (rev: 129) 0
5 00:1f.3 Intel Corporation 82801AA SMBus (rev: 2) 0
6 00:1f.2 Intel Corporation 82801AA USB (rev: 2) 11

11 00:00.0 Intel Corporation 82810E DC-133 GMCH [Grap... 0

The card is entry 0 & 1, but no ports show... Is anyone else using a KPC650 with 2.9.22 ? Can't figure out what's wrong.

[sysop@MikroTik] > /system resource usb print
# DEVICE VENDOR NAME SPEED
0 1:1 USB UHCI Root Hub 12 Mbps

I assume it should show under USB devices correct?

It does not show there either... I sent supouts but your mail server is not accepting mail for some reason. Getting a 421 message from smtp.

Flags: I - inactive
# NAME USED-BY BAUD-RATE
0 serial0 Serial Console 9600
1 serial1 9600

I will roll back to 2.9.18 and see if any difference. Any ideas? What else can I send you to help diagnose?

2.9.18 same result...

I wonder if the more recent 'works with mac osx' kpc650's changed vendor IDs or something and it is not recognized?

My other problem is that the normal USB serial modem (1xrtt/evdo) does not work reliably either, PPP seems to loop thru init over and over without ever truly communicating with modem. If I fool with it enough it will work 1 time, but then ppp will never sync back with AT command mode. Maybe DTR or DSR on USB is not correct? Works perfectly with true rs-232 modems. I will post here in a minute what I mean - actual log entries showing this.

using VX6000 cell phone with USB port...

/ interface ppp-client
add name="ppp-out1" max-mtu=1500 max-mru=1500 port=acm1 \
user="858945XXXX@vzw3g.com" password="vzw" profile=default phone="#777" \
dial-command="ATDT" modem-init="ATZ" null-modem=no dial-on-demand=no \
add-default-route=yes use-peer-dns=yes allow=pap,chap,mschap1,mschap2 \
disabled=yes

This is what I get when it decides to work correctly, usually after a fresh reboot of the router.

07:18:29 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: initializing...
07:18:29 async,ppp,debug ppp-out1: PPP started

07:19:08 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: initializing...

over and over again ... I think it has to do with 'ATH' and not receiving OK, but why? Maybe first character 'A' is not received correctly so OK is never echoed back... because when I enter 'system serial-terminal acm1' and enter 'AT' the first character is missing always. Is it possible to send some CRLF before ATH to flush buffer? Not sure if thats the problem, but it seems to be stuck on not receiving 'OK' after 'ATH'. Its not possible to modify the hang up string as its hardcoded. Just a guess, could be something totally different. Again, a rs-232 modem works perfectly it seems.

Thanks!
Sam

yours does not appear to show up under the sys usb section, here is my output:

[admin@mobile] > system resource usb print detail
0 device="2:1" name="USB OHCI Root Hub" serial-number="c48cd000"
vendor-id="0x0000" device-id="0x0000" speed="12 Mbps" ports=1
usb-version="1.10"

1 device="1:1" name="USB OHCI Root Hub" serial-number="c48cb000"
vendor-id="0x0000" device-id="0x0000" speed="12 Mbps" ports=1
usb-version="1.10"

2 device="1:2" vendor="Qualcomm, Incorporated"
name="Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" vendor-id="0x0c88"
device-id="0x17da" speed="12 Mbps" ports=0 usb-version="1.10"

this is plugged into a soekris 4511 running mt 2.9.18, i will update it to the latest release and try again.

...
...

mt 2.9.23 on the soekris 4511 also works fine with my kpc650 card.

Hmmm...

I can't get mine to show under USB devices or ports ... although i do see them under PCI as a NEC USB something or other. Maybe the latest VZAccess Manager in windows did that firmware update that changed it. I read something about that online. I will see if I can find the vendor ID and device ID somehow to compare.

This is what I see with the card in:

0 device="02:00.1" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=5
memory=0x10801000-0x10801FFF

1 device="02:00.0" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=5
memory=0x10800000-0x10BFFFFF

The 2 NEC ports I am seeing are from the card, but its not showing the vendor ids below that ...

0 device="02:00.1" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=5
memory=0x10801000-0x10801FFF

1 device="02:00.0" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=5
memory=0x10800000-0x10BFFFFF

Are you seeing these 2 usb controllers (from that card) on yours as well?

Card works fine in windows... shows the 0x0c88 vendor ID there...

yes, those resources are also showing up from the card:

0 device="01:00.1" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=10
memory=0x10401000-0x10401FFF

1 device="01:00.0" name="USB (rev: 67)" vendor="NEC Corporation"
category="USB Controller" vendor-id="0x1033" device-id="0x0035" irq=10
memory=0x10400000-0x107FFFFF

what is the system you are running this on?

Just stuck the card in another intel board and get the same result ... shows the NEC controllers but nothing below it.

Intel 815 and an Intel 845. The intel 815 has a PCI-to-PCMCIA card in it, the 845 has cardbus built into the mobo (small form factor).

Can you do an ATI1 on that card and post the result? I'm wondering if the firmware changed or if its just mikrotik not liking it.

yep, same here. Hmmm.... maybe MT can figure it out with my supout that I sent. I was hoping to use these cell modems for the demo at MUM next week but looks like I might have to resort to a static demo : (

Thx,

I have 2 intel boards that will not recognize the USB ports on the KPC650 card. I did take a leap and formatted my toshiba laptop with mt 2.9.23 that has a different Texas Instruments cardbus controller and it works with the KPC650 ... I am guessing the Ricoh & TI PCI1420 cardbus controllers have something to do with it. Will send supouts after mum and I have a chance to dig into it more.
