RB260 SwOS performance test

Fri May 24, 2013 4:58 am

Who else has been doing performance testing on the RB260GS... ?

What's the point? It is a hardware switch. 99.9% of them offer linerate performance in layer2 configurations.

Here is my RB260Gs Performance Analysis conducted on May 24 2013.

Tools: Exfo Packetblazer & BV10

Reference performance:

1500 octets frames
82237 frame per second
Frame Loss = 0%

4000 octets frames
31045 frames per second,
Frame Loss = 0%

9000 octets frames
13858, frames per second,
Frame Loss = 0%

With RB260GS inline between Exfo Packetblazer and Exfo BV10.

96 octets frames
1071685 frames per secon
Frame loss = 0.4%

1500 octet frames
81212 frame per second
Frame Loss = 1,2%

4000 octets frames
30222 frames per second
Frame Loss = 2,7%

9000 octets frames
13062 frames per second
Frame Loss = 5,7%

I'm concerned with the high percentage of frame losses ... 1,2% frame loss on 1500 octet frames seems pretty high.

Is there any capability for Mikrotik to improve this ?

AR8327 - small Packet Buffer - only 1Mbit (128kB) for all ports.

Tests:

TCP connection established.
Packet size 1k bytes: 71.78 MByte/s Tx, 63.70 MByte/s Rx.
Packet size 2k bytes: 73.76 MByte/s Tx, 64.85 MByte/s Rx.
Packet size 4k bytes: 73.08 MByte/s Tx, 64.06 MByte/s Rx.
Packet size 8k bytes: 72.79 MByte/s Tx, 61.11 MByte/s Rx.
Packet size 16k bytes: 74.38 MByte/s Tx, 61.83 MByte/s Rx.
Packet size 32k bytes: 74.72 MByte/s Tx, 61.57 MByte/s Rx.
Done.

UDP connection established.
Packet size 1k bytes: 39.10 MByte/s (64%) Tx, 61.43 MByte/s (2%) Rx.
Packet size 2k bytes: 61.41 MByte/s (44%) Tx, 63.52 MByte/s (2%) Rx.
Packet size 4k bytes: 64.65 MByte/s (42%) Tx, 69.86 MByte/s (2%) Rx.
Packet size 8k bytes: 50.39 MByte/s (54%) Tx, 70.27 MByte/s (1%) Rx.
Packet size 16k bytes: 33.58 MByte/s (69%) Tx, 72.63 MByte/s (1%) Rx.
Packet size 32k bytes: 4917.18 KByte/s (95%) Tx, 72.96 MByte/s (0%) Rx.
Done.
