I follow the instructions here: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Netinstall and here: http://routerboard.com/pdf/413/rb951-2n-qg.pdf.

I have a windows 8 pc, directly attached with ethernet as this device doesn't have a serial port.

I can configure Netinstall for the net booting with an open IP in the same subnet on my PC. PC is 192.168.1.5 and I set the netbooting to 192.168.1.10.

Netinstall sees the OS package, I follow the instructions to hold down reset, power the device on and hold down reset until the LEDs go blank, release the reset button...and nothing happens. I cannot see the router at all in netinstall.

Can someone please help?

Do you use the upgrade packeges (one file) to recover?

I just went through this with netinstall 6.1 and my 951-2n. It(the tool) is not windows 8 compatible. Compatibility mode did nothing.
I got it working by firing up a XP guest machine and connecting the USB network dongle I have to it. Found it the 1st time.

Also: Plug it in, push and hold reset AFTER the ACT light flashes once, and before it comes on again. Hold until flashing done.
