When you have a route set to check ping, what does it ping?

if the router is connected to a modem that has the gateway ip address, it checks that connection. if the modem has lost internet, that is not tested and the router had no way of knowing that.

you can also use netwatch to check other hosts on the network for availability and then take action upon reachability of the monitored host.

i hoping to create a failover. is there any examples of what do to on down and up.
there doesn't appear to be a way to specify the interface under netwatch. that would seem necessary for failover.

please check failover configuration suggested by other users. They are actually working.

I'm using the one located at
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Failover_Scripting and it seems to be working. for a beginners some extra information would be helpful. 1) does it need to be put in a scheduler? 2) and the policies that need to be checked off.
