RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN hardware issue

Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:10 pm

Hi guys,
I've just bought my first MikroTik routerboard (RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN) and I have to say I'm really disappointed. It's working, it's working quite well, but... the routerboard doesn't fit into it's casing. How can this happen?

Look at the pictures. As you can see, the antenna connector on routerboard is in collision with an antenna itself. Someone in factory probably noticed that, so he tried to do a workaround - he damaged the antenna mount so there is a little more space - but still not enough. Who is making these routerboards? Children in China? :-))

Is there a possibility of getting a routerboard that actually fits into its casing?

Thanks for answer and sorry for low pictures quality

Hello,
I also received my RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN today.
Ordered it 3 month ago, but it was not on stock.
Totaly happy about finally unpacking my new router, I found the same issues that Ondřej documented above.

The case seems to be redesigned, at least the "left" antenna is located somewhere else on the new devices compared to the original ones and the motherboard was slidly modificated (changed powerjack position, piezoalarm?)

compared to original:

How can a company that have routerhardware as it core product, redesign a case and the motherboard WITHOUT testing if the board fits into the case ?!?!
Just gives me a bad feeling about the quality of the product. How can I trust the RouterOS Security if the same manufacturer builds and SELLS such hardware?!?

anyone else received one of the "new" devices with the same problems?!

and there:

Mikrotik guys - How is final inspection? Who controls the output quality?

I too find it amazing that this was ever manufactured so poorly. The performance is quite good overall. However the antenna's should have been spaced so as to miss the MMCX headers. I would even accept side mounted antennas vs rear. I fear if one drops and lands on the back antenna it will shear off the MMCX header and it will be over. I plan on buying lots of these but my OCD freaks when I have a bulging case

Regards,
Josh

they should have placed the antenne between the 2 MMCX headers, would just be an offset of a few millimeters.
But the antenna holders are glued into the case, can't modified (drill a oval hole) without destroying the holder.

Josh: AFAIK In one of these links to czech forum is an email from our distributor, that this is a defective series and Mikrotik will change these messed up routerboards for new ones - but we would have to wait for month or two (damn).

---
About DIY fix: Because of that vent next to antenna hole its quite difficult to fix it, it would require drilling a new hole right into that vent, and that would be awful (aesthetically at least). But - if doing so, I would replace these fixed antennas with some MMCX-RSMA pigtail (like this http://www.wifi-stock.com/prods/mmcx-rsma.jpg ) and use RSMA antennas.

But still - I don't see reason to do so, this is a big mistake and it should be fixed by Mikrotik.

I’m sorry that you encountered this problem. This is a mistake on our part, we will exchange the device with a new one, with an improved case. However, the new corrected cases are still in manufacturing, you will have to wait until end of September unti they are ready. If this is OK, contact your distributor for the RMA process

BTW:
Normis, can you tell us what has changed in new board design? What are the improvements over previous version of the board?
1. Moved power connector.
2. Beeper.
3. Some metal capacitors.
4. ...
?

We updated the board case to include the outside pluggable power cord, this moved the antenna a little bit, due to an error, the antenna hole was moved too much during manufacturing

I asked about the board itself, not the case. :)
What are the differences between those two boards:

Apart from what you mentioned, DDMI support was added to SFP. Other things don't affect your user experience.

Just location of the power plug is changed.
What about external power connector (white), new beeper, solid capacitors, and others.... ?
It is not user experience?

How do we get one of the updated ones? I purchased from a distributor in the US. It is currently in use so I'd need to get the new on first to swap.

Same issue here as well... Antennae has been "modified" on the inside of the case - but the case is still bent outwards in the back...

Unfortunately, when opening it to inspect - I damaged the "resistive LCD" screen - and, it no longer responds to touch...

I have looked for a while online - but, cannot find a way to order a replacement...

Where can I get a replacement LCD touch screen...?

...
Thank you for your help...

You should contact the seller to get a replacement unit. You can't get the LCD separately.

Every time Mikrotik makes a mistake with their new products we have to pay the shipping costs to send the "new" items back to ressellers.

Its is now time to have a better Quality Control Service at mikrotik factories, i can´t afford to sell units like these ones to my clients !

Please Innovate and Control Quality :D
