Winbox MAC access

Wed Oct 02, 2013 9:03 pm

I have made a huge mistake while configuring remotely my Mikrotik1 router, I disabled IP - > addresses settings of my Mikrotik device WAN port. I have to access it remotely with winbox with MAC login. I have openwrt router between my mikrotik1 and internet and I am able to access it with ssh to configure port forwarding etc...

Mikrotik1 -> Router1(R1_Public_IP) - > ------- INTERNET ------- > Router2(R2_Public_IP) -> LOCALPC(winbox)

I want to access my Mikrotik1 device with winbox from LOCALPC, Mikrotik1 does not have IP address, because I made a mistake with IP/Addresses settings, I have to connect to it with MAC login, otherwise I have to go to that location and correct Mikrotik's settings localy with computer connected on LAN, but the whole system is very far away from me, so it would take few months to find time and go to remote location. Is it possible to login with winbox over internet and winbox could find my mikrotik's MAC address and login to it? I have tried to port forward 8291 TCP port on my Router1 to my Router2 public IP, but it isn't working, probably I did it wrong, I also configured Router2 to accept 8291 port from the internet, I know that this is not the propper way to configure routers, but I only need to correct my settings in IP / Addresses , otherwise I have to go to that location and do that over LAN with computer connected locally.

if you able to connect Mikrotik1 directly to windows PC, and gain access that windows pc by using team viewer or remote desktop sharing then you can run winbox on that pc and should able to access mikrotik1 via mac address.

good luck my friend, it happens some time, nothing to be worry about. we made little mistake to make our self alert about bigger mistakes.

Ok, that it isn't possible, I forgot that MAC isn't layer3, then I have to do it localy. :(
I have to send someone to that location with computer and teamviwer or go myself, the problem is its a remote island and when you are messing with configuration to fast, that happens :lol:

It would be great to have some version of winbox which could work in openwrt/linux, like SSHBOX so I could connect from SSH console to Mikrotik locally. We all do have lots of embeded devices on network, but
not always a computer connected 24/7, if it's a small remote network.

If you have PC Linux, you can use WINBOX under WINE.

Also here is MAC TELNET source for Linux

On the "LAN" side can't you could just SSH into that IP address from the OpenrWRT box?

SSH to 'Router1'
Install mac-telnet
mac-telnet -> 'mikrotik1'
