Transparent bridge over internet

Thu Oct 24, 2013 10:00 am

Hi,

I am looking for a solution that will transparently bridge two LAN networks over internet. The solution should be a standard one, not with proprietary protocols like EoIP. To simplify how can I connect two routers Mikrotik + Linux or Mikrotik + OpenBSD or Mikrotik + Cisco or Mikrotik + Juniper....to create a L2 the tunnel?

What I've done till now:
I have managed to create GRE L3 tunnels and MPLS with L2 VPLS tunnel. I have tested this on Mikrotik + Mikrotik and I think it should work on other platforms too. Is there something else I can use?

L2TP in Mikrotik by manuals and examples looks that it can handle only L3 (point to point) no true L2 capability. Everywhere is mentioned to put EoIP over the tunnel.
In OpenBSD you can add a GRE interface to bridge and you have a true L2, but Mikrotik establishes GRE in L3.

With all other types of point to point protocols you can apply MPLS and you can achieve L2.
I had a look at BCP but not tested it yet... http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:BC ... ridging%29

Is there anything else that I've missed?

Thanks
Mitja
