Port Bonding Limitation RB450G doesn't make sense

Tue Nov 12, 2013 7:53 pm

I have 2 RB450Gs connected to each other on ports 2 to 2 and 3 to 3. I then have ports 2 and 3 bonded on each RB450G with active backup set and port 2 set as primary. The connection is established at a gigabit rate but when I speed test from RB450G to RB450G using the built in BTest tool I don't get over 100Mbps. I would assume since I have a gigabit connection between the routers that I would be seeing gigabit speeds or close to it with overhead. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thank you.

Even though the 450G has Gigabit ports, it doesn't have the ability to process 1Gbps of traffic under most circumstances, and add to it that you are generating the traffic on the router itself instead of a device connected to the router, that's even more overhead, which will skew the results further.

Test through the routers and you'll get much more, but probably not a full Gbps.

BTest server/client does use Routerboard's CPU and if you check, it would be all the way up during the tests.
