any more info you can reveal fpr this upcoming board?
I really like the network interface design of the RB450G, especially the separatable first interface and the switch chip features.
Im also using some VLAN tag rewriting functions of the AR8316 for some neat tricks.
Any info on what to expect from this new board?

The RB850Gx2 will be on sale at late april 2014 as announced in the
newsletter no. 55, and then, if the RB850Gx2 is launched the manual,
the block diagram, etc. will be also shown at www.routerboard.com.

I think they would not show something else as some tech specs. first.

If the RB850Gx2 has the same dimensions as the RB450G and announced in the Newsletter
No. 55, you will be able to use the both solutions above also for the RB850Gx2.

The Rack mount cases sold by Varia are very good, I used one of this cases fitted with a RB450G and an ALIX board, made a nice routing and generic x86 platform in 1U.

I was hoping for some info from MT, as the board seems to be ready judging from the pictures in the presentation and brochure.
But somehow that seems to be asking for too much.

Still looking for a complete all in one tower router.

What puzzles me is the RAM size. What do we need 512MB of RAM for when we AFAIK can't use Metarouters on it, because it is a dual core architecture?

Ok in related to the circumstance and with a viewing eye to the metarouter support
it would be truth, but DHCP and DNS entries must also be stored and with IPv6
this will be much more then in former times and with an outlook to new features,
upcoming options or the new announced routing engine it is in my eyes better to

Mikrotik does not listen, and I've seen many comments censored, we are not mere complainers users, we are enthusiasts and experts who work assembling their routers, in short: their customers and basis why Mikrotik invoice € 40M annually.

4. Many needs routers type 450G and 2011 series (midd cpu and good ram) with poe output on all ports (this allows us to not have use a poe switch or evaluate new products of UBNT).

5. Very important: devices not only have to be good if not also appear so. We do not mind paying € 30-40 for a 2011 model with more professional look:
- Steel case or thicker metal.
- Best finishes.
- A deeper for this type of device depth: 30-40cm.
- Needless great mikrotik logo, that's creepy.
- Ethernet Ports with LEDs, temperature sensors and voltage to RB450G style.

its more like 1009 in your description, than 850gx2 as 450g successor.

Yeah, completelly agree. All other is almost ideal at this model, but not the Ethernet L2 MTU. It's embarrasing:

fragmentation is one, vpls is another, etc...

So, regarding the MTU. You can't even do Q in Q with a layer 3 MTU of 1500 bytes (20 bytes IP header + 1480 bytes payload).

That would yield 1480 + 20 + 4 + 4. Seeing a VLAN-tag is 4 bytes?

Apparently you missed the part where it used to be 1506. MikroTik recently fixed this with a software fix in RouterOS 6.21. Up until then, nobody was able to achieve 1580 with this model. That's what this thread was talking about as it was started before the fix was released.

Any word on when a new H/W version with H/W crypto acceleration will be available?

on 6.27 and 6.28 I have tried to connenct OVPN Client requiring client certificate, but it always fails. OVPN works only without client certificate, tested same CA on RB450 and RB951 which works with my certificats without problems. I tried then to downgrade to 5 for testing, but this fails completely. Donwgraded many mikrotik items in the past, but RB850Gx2 won´t work anymore. Only one time beep. Netinstall always fails, after the 3 trial the reset button removed from the board.

Are you sure that you can downgrade 850Gx2 to 5.x ? It is 6.x era equipment.

yes, I am sure. Look at the download page, there you will find Version 4 and 5 for PPC RB 800 Series.

But I reinstalled 6.28 by pressing the missing reset button via a screwdriver with netinstall. Problem with Client certificate in OVPN is still there, same settings and certificates work perfectly on other board. Can this be a bug?

Downloadable package does not mean that applicable routerboards could be downgraded or upgraded to particular version. I have almost "killed" my RB133C3 with 6.x version.

Of course the RB850Gx2 is not compatible with RouterOS 5.x or older. It says so right in the Quick Guide! If the last version of 5.x (5.26) was released before the Routerboard model in question, it is a sure bet that the board won't run that version: that board's SoC was never used in other products during 5.x so why would you think that the kernel would be compatible or that older RouterOS versions would contain the necessary drivers for all of the hardware?
