DNS "allow remote requests" disables itself

Mon Mar 17, 2014 10:47 am

Dear Mikrotik Forum

Thanks for such a fantastic product! I've been running MikroTik boards for quite a few years now and I know them quite well. However, I have a problem now which is confusing me - if anyone can help I would be really grateful!

I have two upstream gateways, either of which can provide DNS: 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.4. On my own network, my RB750G has an external IP of 10.0.0.9 and my internal network is the usual 192.168.88.0/24

The weird thing is this: I make sure that "allow remote requests" is enabled, but after a while my network crawls to a standstill. This while can sometimes be a few hours and sometimes days or weeks. It's not predictable. And it doesn't seem to be related to how much or how little data I pull through.

I have discovered that when this happens, I have to log into the router at 192.168.88.1 and re-enable the "allow remote requests" option in DNS settings. It appears to have turned itself off randomly and I have to switch it back on each time!

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? I have a solution (logging in and re-enabling), but it means my network is not 100% and can fall over when I'm not there! I am the only one with access to this router and so it's not another admin doing this.

All the best!

Gareth

Wow! I was so focussed on the problem, I didn't see that ridiculously small max UDP!

Thanks for this - it seems to be a lot stable already. I will do the upgrade during the holiday next month

Very gratefully yours,

Gareth
