EOIP problems or help in config

Tue May 13, 2014 4:08 pm

Hello there,

I've 2 RB750 routers with 5.24. Both connect to a PPPOE Server.

They have so both on pppoe interface ( eth3 ) the addresses 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3

They ping each one the others without problems.

I tried to do EOIP connection between them. The 1st calls 10.0.0.3 and the 2nd calls 10.0.0.2. These are addresses from PPPOE server.

One has lan ( eth4 ) with address 192.168.3.187/24, the other has lan ( eth4 ) with address 192.168.3.188/24

I didn't use during tests neither IPIP or PPTP connection as on the wiki it's shown EOIP can run on each L3 network.

I also did bridge where I put EOIP interface and Lan interface on each.

I don't look eoip interfaces shown in ethernet interface.

And also, as I told I can ping wan address of each other router, but can't ping 192.168.3.x/24 network.

Any help please ?

Regards

Marco

Ciao Marco,

If you have used 192.168.3.x/24 on both RB, the routing is not working, because the same interval of address are used on both RB.

Hello again,

yes, what you tell is mainly correct about routing.

But EOIP has the goal to " bridge " the network like if it is a cable or a switch.

This way infact allows to have the same subnet on several different routers.

Any solution ?

use 192.168.3.0/25 dhcp pool on router 1 and 192.168.3.128/25 dhcp pool on router 2 ;)
on firewall filters block dhcp server request/reply between eoip
and be sure no one IP are duplicated between the two LANs

And also check: the IP and other rules must be assigned to BRIDGE, not directly to ethernet/eoip interface put into bridge.

Hello you're right.

But I want to keep the subnet on both router. I've seen on several example that this is possibile.

This is the reason I used exactly EOIP.

I assigned the IP to the bridge.

The problem seems to be a missing connection between the 2 eoip connection. There is no firewall rule so that traffic can fully pass.

I'm waiting from 3 working days reply from support.

I am facing the same problems... do you need a PPTP or any other tunnels to use the EoIP to work? The EoIP tunnel shows to be working but not data is passing though it?

All the ones I noticed you need to bonded them, I have read other places that the EoIP is not encrypted so that is the need for the PPTP.

I guess the big question is: How do you bond the AP's in order for the EoIP's to work? Do you need different subnets on the bonding and the AP's? Thank for helping if you can...
