CRS226-24G-2S+ How to choose Master Port

Sat May 17, 2014 10:25 pm

Beginner question I bet, but newly installed CRS226 here and I don't know hot to decide what port I should set as Master Port.

So far I have implemented no configuration other than use quickset to set IP address as something appropriate for my LAN segment, Time Zone, and some port names/comments to identify device connected.

its set to ether1 by default

ether1 is the LAN interface of my PFsense firewall (to Internet)
ether2/3/4 connected to NAS interfaces
remaining ether connected to regular devices
SFP+1 and SFP+2 are each connected to an ESXi Host at 10Gig.

I would set the master to whichever interface you apply the Layer3 config too.

Or you could bridge the interfaces together to create one logical segment and remove the master-slave relationship.

As I do not plan to do any layer three on this switch (for now anyway) I guess it does not make much difference then. I tried to bridge it using quickset, is that what you mean by your second sentence? I tried that initially, but was no longer able to connect to the admin IP, and had to factory reset. i will investigate this option more. Thanks!

You can WinBox to the MAC address if you loose connection. Also, good point to start using the "SAFE MODE" option, will save you having to factory reset because of an oopsie.
