POOR wireless performance

Thu May 22, 2014 10:01 pm

Hey guys,

Since me and some coworkers had very bad experiences with the provider supplied router/modems we've bought 5 mikrotik RB2011UiAS-2Hnd devices.

But we cant get good troughput with wireless networks the speed we are getting fluctuate a LOT i've seen 80Mbps once on www.speedtest.net but must of the time it fluctuates between 5Mbps and 15Mbps

On a wired connected i'm reaching the full 180Mbps download speed. To be honoust we've been trying a lot and we are clueless where we should look and what we are doing wrong. The config of my wireless interfaces is as follows

Link quality depends on both sides. May be that the client's signal level is too close to noise level at ap.

Fine tuning the wireless performance may prove harder than you think, especially indoors.
First of all, I would not recommend to connect to an AP which is in a different floor, because the signal is greatly influenced by the structure of the building itself.
Second, how far are the APs from each other? Are they operating on the same frequency?
Third, how far is the client from the AP? IF they are really close, would suggest to go with as higher frequency as possible, like 2462MHz. Also, try to reduce the power output of the wireless of the AP so to keep the connection signal at nearly -60.
