Automatic Failover & Internet Access blocking - Mikrotik

Fri May 23, 2014 5:25 pm

Hi All,

I have been using Mikrotik for some months now and I have a bit of challenge I will like you to assist me with.
1. Automatic failover
2. Blocking certain users from reaching the internet except for GMAIL.

1. I have two WAN links from my ISP provider and I want a situation whereby in WAN A fails, it should switch over to WAN B. I set A as gateway with priority 1 and B with priority 2. Presently, I do the switching over manually by going to disable whichever link fails.

2. From the image in the attachment, I want to be able to block some users (users in 192.168.0.64/23)from accessing the internet but they will be able to use GMAIL alone. Other users will have internet.

Thanks

Do you have check gateway by ping set in your routes? That will keep you from having to switch the routes over manually. As far as blocking the others users, you can use the web proxy feature in conjunction with the firewall. Check out the manual on web proxy. You are going to permit the traffic for gmail to go directly to gmail and then drop all other traffic. You don't actually have to cache the data, by the way. You can use the proxy to just to filter traffic.
