Version 6.5?

I'm a new user to MikroTik and RouterOS but I'm confused already. When I bootup and log on it says I'm on version 6.5 for my RB2011Uias-2hnd-in unit. When I check for updates however I'm offered 6.1. How can 6.1 be an upgrade for 6.5? And when I look online, it appears 6.9 is the current version, but that's not offered.

Is there something less than intuitive about the version numbers for this thing? So far I've spent an entire day trying to make it work followed by hitting the reset and starting over. Is the version related to my frustration?

v6.10 is a better version than v6.5, and v6.13 is even newer.

these are not decimal numbers, they are versions. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 ...

Oh I get it. So it's 6.thirteen, or 6-13 instead of 6.13. Got it.

I'll do the upgrade and see if that solves my other problem then. Every time I change the LAN address I can't talk to the unit any longer on any IP range. I'll try after the update.

I am a brand new Mikrotik'er as well. I had a similar problem that when I used quickset to put my unit into bridge mode and set new ip, it would no longer respond on the old or new IP. Somebody responded to me that use can use winbox to connect to the switch by MAC address. That worked perfectly for me! and I was able to connect and set the IP/mask/hostname/dns (DNS wouldn't take in quickset, so I used the regular method in winbox)

Once I did the update to 6-13 the unit worked, including the Quickset. I'm still working on the OpenVPN part. The update got me moving.
