You're not using double nat perhaps?? I.e. doing adress translation at two or more places in your network?

I've seen many times that this breaks SSL - which is used by MSN to connect.

is the problem related to accessing MSN website, or using the messenger program? if the messenger has problems, try enabling uPnP in the RouterOS configuration

Possible MTU Problem

Wed May 31, 2006 10:27 pm

I do have similar problems and after changin MTU with the MSS everything was fixed. Normallay my isp works with MTU 1492 but i can't have a stable connection without changing MTU. May be you can give it a try.

chain=forward out-interface=pppoe-out1 protocol=tcp tcp-flags=syn action=change-mss new-mss=1452

nice to meet u romana, i am proud to meet a girl from my country lebanon coz i live in lebanon and i am lebanese to the bones.

 and for the problem u have i think u can try to use socks proxy by enabling it at MT and configure MSN messenger to use it, but without username and password.

 and dont forget to double check your firewall rules and if u cloned your conf from the demo u have to chech them also carefully, coz the virus rules will have that impact also.

Also as normis said u have to try UPNP and try to read the manual part about it.
The UPnP protocol is used for most of DirectX games as well as for various Windows Messenger features (remote asisstance, application sharing, file transfer, voice, video) from behind a firewall.
It is highly recommended to upgrade DirectX runtime libraries to version DirectX 9.0c or higher and Windows Messenger to versionWindows Messenger 5.0 or higher in order to get UPnP to work properly.

New MSN have also stupid features to check connectivity quality (As i know it send packets to echo port, maybe it is the issue). Most of the lebanese ISP's seems dont fit Micro$oft standarts :D

Offtopic:
Ramona, are you interested to work in Virtual ISP(Lebanon)?
Seems you know well networking stuff, we are searching for new people.
Please send me mail to nuclearcat@nuclearcat.com, if yes, or MSN with same id.

We are seeing the same issues on 2.9.25 and it appears to be MTU related and mostly with Linksys routers. No NAT on our network anywhere.

It looks like enabling the transparent proxy fixes everything.

Setting the 'Change TCP MSS' value to Yes in all relevant PPP profiles seemed to fix the issue for me. This wasn't necessary in 2.8.
