Traffic generator killed ccr1009 ?

I've connected in lab 2x ccr's through 2x crs's with traffic generator on sfp+, sfp and 4 ethernet ports (total 15gb rx/15gbtx). After about 20 hours one ccr just switched off and won't start anymore (it's trying to start for a while but after max 20s it's switching off or stays off for long time, but still takes about ~20W from wall). Was it too much to it?

welcome to the dead CCR1009 club, you are member #422. Although Mikrotik support will not acknowledge any problems with CCR1009. Mine arrived dead inside of the box. Several of my friends have experienced the same thing (6-20 hours before failure). This has all been on the 1S+ model for us

zelon,

Do you have blue LED on on your router?

Make sure you have 6.18 installed on your CCR router, otherwise install it with Netinstall,

expo, my are indeed 1s+ version

There's no visible sign of life on it, the only things are heat and energy meter. Most of time it's in this state and for totally random periods of time it's trying to boot (fan on, led are blinking, blue led lights, lcd shows boot) and after that it behaves just like I've plugged it off the wall (seems like switched off but still is heating and takes ~20W from wall). Today I'll send it to RMA and I'll do the same test when I get replacement.

Two Dead CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ units within 30 days here...

One was up for about 30 days, the other less than 24 hours.

Traffic generator was just a coincidence, the issue is in hardware and you need to submit it for warranty repair.

Yes, all RouterBOARD devices have warranty, please check with the supplier for more details.

Can we have some details of the hardware issue, does it affect every CCR1009? How do we identify which 1009's are going to fail?

Does the current routeros + firmware solve the problem? Our 8G-1S-1S+ is running 6.19 with 3.18 fw.

Thanks.

There is no specific list of affected devices. There is a hardware change involved, so software upgrade can't help.

does this mean that I don't have to choose 1009 for now, and look for some other model due to some hardware(i assume unidentified) issue?

Also, if this is a known hardware problem it would be nice to know which series of the device have been effected. Maybe in a per date frame list?

I for instance have one from the first batch that was released but am not using it currently (It's for me new house which is being built). I don't want to discover I have a model which suffers this defect after the warranty has expired.

And I understand sharing this information or maybe even setting up a replacement program is a costly affair for Routerboard/Mikrotik, but having your customers not trust their devices is potentially a much bigger hit for the company... If buyers know you take actions to resolve an unfortunate hardware error, no confidence would be lost. :)

Pro-active is always better then reactive in these kind of situations.

Of course, if it only affects 1 in 1000 devices, all this won't be necessary! Let's hope that is the case. :)

Our RMA department only has received a few devices with such issue, so I wouldn't say this issue is widespread. Looks like half of the people with the problem have already posted in this forum. We would not like to spread any kind of panic now, so please sumbit to RMA as usual for any defective unit.

Ah, then it seems that the problem got highlighted a bit too much through the forum (not unusual). Good to know, makes me feel a lot better about the actual failure rate!

Could you please provide some RMA statistics in comparison to other models just to be sure that this is not something that we have to afraid of?

Returned amount is similar to other CCR units, maybe slightly higher, but still the amount is negligible compared to units shipped.

Just wanted to note. We have deployed about 10 CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ in the last 6 months with no issue. Just got another 5 in for new deployments with 3 in a lab for 4+ days no issues. We have about 20 of them deployed with no failures.
