Fastest speed and way to make a PTP Link

Wed Sep 03, 2014 8:41 am

Howdy,

We have purchased 2 x SXT G-5HPacD units which have been very quick and easy to setup, but have been quite awful at throughput. I have set them up in a ptp bridge mode and the data throughput is fixed around 100 Mbps. While the units are rated and connected at :
Tx Rate 702Mbps-80MHz/2S
Rx Rate 325Mbps-80MHz/1S/SGI

I have them configured using nv2 protocol, 5 Ghz-AC-Only and 20/40/80 eeeeC
Is there something simple I might have missed ? Is there any other details I have missed
to forward on ?
Thanks for reading
Martin

What's their Ethernet link speed?
How did you test the throughput?

What signal you have?
What distance between the SXT's
Have you line of sight?

Hi Chris / Plisken,

They are both connected to a Gigabit Switch at either end to which a linux server is also connected. All ports have been confirmed to be Gbit ethernet and negotiated to Gigabit Full Duplex. The speed testing was done with ftp client and ftp server and sftp client and server.

I dont have the S/N ratio on hand at the minute, but they are currently only a metre apart for testing. Which stats would be best for the S/N ratio ?

Thanks again

If they're only a metre apart, chances are you've got way too much signal.

Also there have been a few threads claiming that nv2 isn't optimised for AC yet, getting the same results with 802.11? Have you tried using N nv2?

If the devices to close to each other the devices are screaming to each other and that is not good.

Reduce the power ore make more distance to each other.

A signal between -60 to -75 are fine

Just to check on the speed of the AC I set up one device as an access point : http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Ma ... ireless_AP.

When uploading and downloading the best I can get is 12 - 15 Mbytes transferring over SFTP. I then swapped back to my Linksys AC router and the same file between the same laptop and server and its 35 - 40 Mbytes . Am I missing something about the Microtik's and AC speed.

I have set the Wireless back to 802.11, WPA2 for security as an Access Point. The signal strength as below when connected as the Access Point :
Tx/Rx Signal Strength -66 dBm
Tx/Rx Signal Strength Ch0 -70 dBm
Tx/Rx Signal Strength Ch1 -69 dBm
Tx/Rx Signal Strength Ch2
Signal To Noise 36 dB
Tx/Rx CCQ 91 %
P Throughput 30265 kbps
Tx Rate 780Mbps-80MHz/2S/SGI
Rx Rate 351Mbps-80MHz/2S

I am about 10 - 12 metres away while testing this way. The 2nd Wifi device is not turned on at the minute.
