I have just seen the built in graphs feature within our mikrotik routers.
Does anyone know of a package that can be installed that provides greater detail without having to install a separate graphing or logging server?

Am i right in assuming the solution to doing it within the router is a package?
I have a cloud core router as a border gateway and would like to get some better monitoring of our two upstream connections.

No way. Install some external tool on other computer and create your graphs from snmp data.
You can try the dude from mikrotik or any other application.
