Beware of CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+

Fri Nov 14, 2014 8:22 pm

Hi everybody,

just wanted to warn you from buying device from topic. Just installed one on wednesday. After one day of work, device is dead. No reaction to providing power, in either of two sockets, device is dead. During it's short life, device was instantly putting it's only connected RJ45 interface on/off:

that was part of log on other vendor device which works fine for 3 years. So thanks Mikrotik, great quality assurance, you just gained a lot of publicity in my region. Now I only have to travel through half the Poland on sunday to our biggest IX just to replace it. Fortunately we didn't manage to connect client yet to utilize this link.

There have been some other posts about dead CCRs. I have been anxious about this, since I have 9 of this model in production. So far though, no serious problems.

I'm sorry to hear you had this problem. I too have several of the CCR1009 units in services with no issues. I also have more than 20 of the CCR1016 units in service.

I have seen the port flapping before, which was fixed by adjusting the settings on both ends and disabling auto negotiate. One unit did require a clean NetInstall to fix. I hope you are able to get yours replaced quickly. But as anyone in the IT field knows, hardware will either fail in the first 24 hours, or it will last many years.

One thing that made me unsuspicious was fact that every other CCR I have in network works with no issues (at least hardware part). What irritates me most is that I can see that people had exact same issues as far as in August, yet Mikrotik didn't withdraw this model (or send any announcment about broken part list) from the market. For me it's lack of respect for my work from their side.

There is a known hardware issue with a small percentage of CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ models.

You are able to return faulty units to your distributor for repair.

The units that shipped with RouterOS 6.18 are OK. It is only a small number of units that shipped with earlier RouterOS releases that had the issue.

x2

no issues with this devices, very nice, good performing product

update routeros and router firmware (as it says at the box) if problem continues after reseting the config, get RMA from your provider to get a new device

is a matter of statistics, or bad luck to get a faulty device, thats warranty is for
