Hi,

We've got 2x RBMetal9HPn 's (900Mhz) [WebFig v6.12] that we'd like to use to create a link from one house to another 1Km away LOS.

I am having trouble working out the config. It does not seem the same as our RBMetal2SHPn 's.

Local Internet router for Site "A": 192.168.1.1
It also serves all DHCP IP's.

Site "A" MikroTik IP: 192.168.1.166
Site "B" MikroTIk IP: 192.168.1.167

All I want to do is bridge the two sites so Site "B" has access to Site "A"'s LAN & WAN (Internet).

Country is Australia so our 900Mhz WiFi Band is 915-928Mhz.
Channel must be set to 922Mhz - Bandwith 10Mhz or less.

It should be a simple config. Much like the 2.4Ghz version that we set up. But it has me totally lost.
- I have not been able to select "AP" in the quick config. It's not there.
- I have not been able to set the frequency.
- I have not been able to update the firmware. (Says: Cannot Resolve Address - upgrade.mikrotik.com)

Any help appreciated.

OK. Another new problem.

I am trying to update the devices firmware to "Standard Upgrade Package v6.22".

I have downloaded NetInstall v6.22 .

When I run it I get the following error.

Bind() Failed: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by it's access permissions. (10013)

And then the program closes. This happens every attempt.

Computer is running Windows 7 Professional.

Some really screwy stuff going on.

Both (900Mhz) devices fire up from a brand new boot stating it has a config loaded for the 2Ghz band! ¿?¿?¿?

Many of the pull down menu's simply don't take. Once selected they bounce back to the old setting.

In the Quick Config options are CPE, Home AP, PTP Bridge, & WISP AP. Yet often it will flick back to a heading of "NETWORK". WTF??

Often the device will default back to an IP of 0.0.0.0 requiring a hard reset to gain access again back on 192.168.88.1

Neither device can see the other in the Wireless "Scanner" mode regardless of if in CPE, AP, Bridge, etc modes.

Why is the firmware revision so old and crazy on such a brand new device?

Really need some help here guys! <beg Beg!>

Did you manage to Netinstall them with v6.22 ?
What if you don't use Quickset, but go into the Wireless menu?

It would be better if you sent your support.rif file to support, we could look and see what is wrong there. To make this file type "/system sup" or click "Make supout.rif" button in the Webfig menu

OK. I've got it going.

But what a mess these things are out of the box.
Hopefully the following info will help others.

The Old firmware (6.12) is a total pig.

- Put the device into PTP Bridge mode.
- Set the IP address to a free address on your network.
- Set the gateway to point at your main router where the WAN is for the Internet.
- Set the DNS to point at your main router (as above). In my case 192.168.1.1
- ** DO NOT HIT APPLY** (This buggers everything up.
- Check for Updates. (Firmware).
- Download and Install the latest version (In my case v6.22).
- Let it reboot and enjoy it's new brain (That is no longer retarded!)

From here on the damn things actually work as they should.

Simple from here on. They work as did their 2.4Ghz Sisters config wise.

On your DHCP server (In my case my main Router Fritz!Box 7390) assign their LAN IP's via the MAC addresses.
Set the devices to PTP Bridge. Make one the AP, the other the CPE. Set frequency, password etc.

Bang! Done! That easy.

Where I went wrong. (Hints).

- Don't mix WinBox versions. Always use the one from the device.
- Where the device get's it's IP can be confusing / difficult. There are 2 separate LAN & WAN MAC addresses. If using DHCP it can get messy. Often the result is the device ends up with an IP of 0.0.0.0.
Of course there is also the option of just setting a Static IP. (Not what I like).
- don't even try configuring the thing with v6.12 installed. It's a total pig. Update it to the latest version before doing anything further.

I've had a bit of a learning curve migrating across from the extremely pussyified and gutless Ubiquiti products. But I am getting there!.

How do you backup your configuration settings of the device as a file on your PC?

I've been up and down the menu's over and over again. And I just simply can't see it anywhere. ???

there is a Backup button in the Files menu. After the backup has been created, you can click on the resulting file and download it

OK. Here's another one for you.

I am currently leaving the Country Selection set to - No_Country_Selected.

It seems to be the only way to select 922 Mhz.

If I select Australia the only option that comes up is AUTO.

But how do I find out what "AUTO" translates into as a frequency selection?

This is important for us as we only have from 915-928Mhz allocated for WiFi and either side is commercial with tough penalties if we go out of band.

I think the Australian Option needs looking at and updating maybe?

It could be possible that our Australian regulations are not up to date, I will have to check that with my colleagues.
But selecting "no country" is fine, as long as you know the regulations yourself. If you already know what frequencies you are allowed to use, it is completely fine to set these things yourself. So leave the country setting to "no country"

It would be nice to see the frequency selection work OK when our country is selected on any of your devices.
This is a nice safeguard.

Also there is a subsection where part of the bands are Ham Radio specific. These allow higher power.

I can give you all the details including all the web links to the government papers that list this information if you'd like to get your devices up to speed for our country.

I think this would be very good for sales.

Much like Ubiquiti, if a device is locked into a country code then the Authorities are much happier.

We found that the Australian list was only implemented in the new Wireless-FP package. We now copied it into the old Wireless (regular) package as well. Next RouterOS update will have it

Latest update shows the frequencies against the Australian country code.

While your at it there is another mistake.

On the 900Mhz devices the "Band" is always shown as 2Ghz.

For example

2GHz-B/G/N

Perhaps you could change this to

900-B/G/N

or

900MHz-B/G/N

Which ever will fit in the field.

When you see the incorrect band it gives you an uneasy feeling as to what's wrong??

P.S> Would love to see a RBMetal9SHPn (Super High Power) as per the original web spec's (1000mWatt). Or better.

Dear Yachtcrib, if you were able to configure your system correctly, is there any chance you could assist me with mine? I am on a sailboat in Mexico and just cannot figure this thing out. edakira, please contact support@mikrotik.com if you are having problem connecting both devices together.
Please include support output files from both units.
Also what is the distance between the both units and what antennas you use?

I have the similar hardware on my power boat. I configured the routers with the GUI. I started with both of them after a system reset and made the following changes:

Bridge mode
SSID: (ssid)
Encryption: WPA2 / AES : (password)

When I wish to connect to a wireless network, I point my browser to 10.1.1.254 and use the quick settings to enter the AP info. I've been using this configuration for over a year, and it has worked fine.

What is a simple way to set the client end so that the LED's show Signal Strength?

I haven't been able to find this so far.
